Ok, I'm not 100% raw; I would guess I"m probably about 75% or more raw, and I have cut Waaayy back on my animal products. Maybe 2 or 3 meals out of the week, which is pretty good considering I am a long time Atkins dieter!!!

Anyway, is internal cleansing necessary? Wouldn't the raw diet take care of that? What are the benefits of high colonics? Would they help detox?

Thanks.

Ellen

Absolutely not.

Hi, colonics, high colonics, enemas, NOT NECESSARY at all!!!!

eating raw will do all you need, Victoria Boutenko and her family went all raw, and never did any of that (stated in their books), and they are doing great.

I've never done that, and I've lost a bunch of weight on raw, and feed great.

I say, "Just eat raw" it's that simple.

good to have you here.

Thanks, Revvell and RawPriestess,

I appreciate it. It's great to be here, I LOVE this forum. I love that no one is judgmental or nasty.

Now I can take the $150 I was going to use for the colonics, and use that to buy myself a nice dehydrator!

Welcome to you!! As a former Atkins-er myself, I can tell you this much, after almost 2 weeks on Raw, there's a HUGE comparison factor.. I no longer feel like a greaseball, heavy and sedated.. I feel light and skippy and healthy :D

Welcome again!!!!!

Former Atkin's Dieter here too...I have been transitioning to a raw diet for the past 3 years and am now 100%. Atkins just about killed me. You are in the right place. I lost alot of weight on Atkins, but plain and simple I had very little health issues prior to it and afterwards I was at the hospital or the doctors all the time. Test and more test. Hooked to a heart monitor, etc..etc...etc... Doctors did all they could for me with their limited knowledge on my issues. Then I found raw and my health gets better and better everyday!

P.S.

I used colonics when I first started out and I found them helpful, but not a "have to have". It is your choice. If I had the choice between a dehydrator and a colonic I would so get the dehydrator or a vitamix, or a food proccesor. Raw will clean you out.

If you mean from 'without' as opposed to 'within' I would say No. Cleansing is a biological process that gets all it abilities to do so...from you.
Drain cleaners and the like are usable for plumbing fixtures, but you are bestowed with the uniqueness of being alive and endowed with all the biological mechanisms to achieve your own internal cleansing. Though many have nirvana like experiences attributed to the rushing of waters through thier colons, alleviating symtoms of constipation by eliminating fecal deposits that somehow have affixed themselves for years and years to the walls. (So much for the mucosa that lines this organ and serves the purpose of keeping the wall pristine, just like inside of the mouth).
It is impossible to convince many devotees otherwise that the colon can take of itself just fine given the proper hygienic conditions that it requires. But it's apparently alot of fun to assist the process and by no other rational means can those intent upon this proceedure to think otherwise.

I guess I'm against it. :D

-I've done it a few times. I think it's more NOT necessary than necessary. However....I think it can be a valuable adjunct for those who are making positive lifetime changes.

Wouldn't you get the same effect by eating lots of beans?

Hi Ellen,
I wrote an essay addressing this very question and it's posted on my website here: http://www.rawschool.com/colonics.htm.

Best wishes,

I do not think they are necessary at all. I wouldn't even consider it. I do know that some people who do these things do it for a certain sort of satisfaction that they get out of it. I do not think there are any health benefits.

I see I was not the only Atkins dieter! The last time I did Atkins, I felt horrible for about 3 weeks while my body adjusted. I feel pretty good on raw, a little tired. I think I'm eating enough. I may try to add some more calories and see if that makes a difference. I can't wait to get to the point where I need more sleep. I always feel like I could use a 20 minute nap when I come home from work! and by 10, my eyes are closing.

Nora, I read your essay. You brought up some very good points. I think that often we abuse our bodies and then look for a quick fix. I have done colonics in the past, but I wasn't eating very healthily at the time.

I feel confident that raw foods will allow my body to take care of itself. I believe that our bodies have the ability to do so, if we stop abusing them.

I felt wonderful on Atkins looking at it from a standard american point of view. I had an increase in energy. I went from a size 16 to a size 2. I maintained the diet for 2 years.

I ignored the fact that I could rarely make a bowel movement anymore, that my skin looked awful, that I looked sickly, that I had migraines, that I was fainting, and I just kept doing atkins until I started having internal pain.

That next year I spent close to $30,000 in and out of the hospitals and doctors offices. Then, almost dead and hopeless, I started taking my path on finding out more info about alternative methods. I would spend on average a $1,000 -1,500 a month on herbs and alternative treatments.

Then I saw a flyer about anti-aging and something appealed to me. I didn't care to look or feel younger at the time. I just wanted to feel better and not die, and reverse what I had done to my body eating Atkin's. Well I went to the seminar and wouldn't you know it it was about raw and living foods. I signed up for a 10 day class on raw foods. I was raw 100% during the class. After day 6 elimanated my bowels for the first time in 6 months and I was zooming with energy and was glowing and smiling from ear to ear.

It was amazing. I maintain 100% raw for some time, I think about 4 months. I was trying to stay with it, but I was sticking to some hard (for me) raw gurus rules about raw and I found it overwhelmingly difficult. I also thought besides, I felt better now, I don't need to do this. After that I transitioned to about 70% raw or so. Sometimes more and sometimes less. My health issues starting popping up again. Not as severe, but still not great.

Now it has been a almost 3 years and I am back doing 100% again and feeling tons better. I have now made a commitment to this lifestyle 100% and hope to continue on growing this path as I continue.

I hope you have a wonderful journey on raw. Best wishes!

I've read that 80% of all cancers originate in the colon.

In his book: Natural Cures by Kevin Trudeau, he recommends 16 colonics - one every two or three days.

My thoughts are that cleansing from the outside and the inside is best. I don't know where he gets 16 from but a few are most probably very beneficial. Colonics only address the lower colon however, but that is where most of the bad stuff tends to accumulate. If one is just starting out I would recommend them, but if one has been eating raw for a while then perhaps one a year should probably suffice.

Personal choice though
