View Full Version : Help I Cant Stop Eating. Whats Going On?
I have gained 12 pounds since june20th. I have been on raw food off and on for a year. But since May I was 100 percent raw. I did a 4 day fast on June 14 th about 5 days after that I just have not been able to stop eating. Nothing in my life has changed I just cant stop eating. I think Im going to start raw now not tomorrow now. I eat some fruit then I start eating all the other junk. I dont know why I find myself not being able to stop. Any advice? Has this happened to anybody else?

Can't stop eating, and weight gain sound to me like there is some kind of medical issue going on here. An out of whack thyroid is one possiblity. However weight gain and eating less food is the more common scenario here. One thing that can cause rapid weight gain and out of control hunger is undiagnosed type 2 diabetes. If you have this and your blood sugar is high, the food that you eat can't get in to feed your cells because they are coated with sugar. This causes the body to feel as if it is starving and you'll want to eat and eat. Especially fruits and other sugary or carb laden foods. And if you do have diabetes, one of the worst things you can do is fast for any length of time. A person without diabetes can fast. They might feel hungry. But their blood sugar will remain stable because their system is working properly. A diabetic needs food on a regular basis. If their body does not get the expected food, their liver kicks in and dumps glucose to protect their brain from the damage of a possible hypo (low blood sugar).
Do you know any diabetics? If so, ask if they will test your blood for you. If your blood sugar is above 110, then something is going on. Either diabetes or pre-diabetes (impaired glucose tolerance). People tend to think that a symptom of diabetes is weight loss. And it can be, for people with type 1 diabetes. But type 2 causes the opposite problem with weight gain around the belly section being the most common.
Now this may not be the cause at all. But it would be a good idea to check and find out if this is the case. If not, then it could be simply a matter of eating the wrong things.

After the 5 days had passed from your fast, and you say you couldnt stop eating was that raw food, or non-raw foods. If it was raw, what were you typically eating?

I would eat some fruits but then started with avocodo which is good but i would eat at least two in one day with flour tortillas and or tostadas overdosing on almonds, and cashews, poporn and im embarrased to say (nachos at the theatre) ice cream, chocolate the bad kind not raw cacao nibs, bread and so on not many raw foods mostly non- raw foods.
Oh P.S. all food above mentioned in one day

I am generally not a binge eater. But I have done this because I did not listen to my body and used the food as a substitute for what I really needed. My daughter tends to be the same way. Alas, for her she tends to do this frequently. Hopefully she will outgrow this. From what I've read, children tend to do this because they only know certain needs. Such as that they are tired, their tummy hurts and food makes it better. They haven't learned enough yet to realize that sometimes what they need is sleep and not food.
This is exactly what I did! Now granted, I really knew I needed to sleep, but I didn't want to do it. This happened some years ago when I made a wooden dollhouse that I'd gotten as a gift. It was a kit, but I'd had to buy additional things like paint, fabric and other things to decorate it with.
At the time, I was working a lot of hours and just never had a large enough chunk of time to put it together. Then I finally got three days off in a row. I began working on it. At one point, I took a break. I had to allow the paint to dry on one part of it before I could continue. So I ate a meal. Then I pushed on.
Sometime late in the night when I should have been asleep, I got hungry. I had a package of cookies. I ate a couple. Felt better. I was exhausted but I didn't want to stop working on the thing because it was coming along so well. Some hours later, I felt sick to my stomach and realized I had eaten the whole package of cookies. But I was close to being done with the dollhouse. I wound up staying up for over 24 hours just to finish this project. Not a smart thing to do at all. And this is why I overate. I kept eating to keep myself going from lack of sleep.

After I go on fasts, I typically "reload" afterward.
My advice is to plan in advance what you are going to eat after you break your fast. That way you don't reach for the junk.

Are you craving certain non-raw foods? Cravings can be a sign of a food intolerance or sensitivity. Wheat, sugar, soy, corn, dairy, and others are the main culprits. Many people are intolerant, but they don't listen to their bodies. Weight gain is a "symptom" of eating cooked food, especially the one's your reacting to. I think you should try to just jump right in to 100% raw and get rid of all that other junk from the house. Some can do part cooked and part raw without a problem transitioning, but others, such as us that are "addicted" too the cooked food MUST go cold turkey. Good luck.
