I'm on day 5 of my 30-day challenge, and I finally let dh know what I was doing. He asked, "Why are you doing this?" I explained that it was a challenge to see what kinds of changes you could experience after 30 days of a raw diet. He rolled his eyes and said, "Well, of course you'll see changes, because that's what you're expecting." In other words, it's all nothing but mind over matter. Grrrr!

I had to laugh at both of you, him because he was so right, you because you wanted more words - it is mind over matter, sorry to sound like him :p , but boy am I gald this board is here - I am telling you cause sometimes, my matter gets over my mind and I want a doughnut - yeah you heard me, and the good news, I can not go anywhere, I am barley allowed out of bed, let alone to that store. I am sorry, I am digressing and that isn't good - well back to my juice and I think 23 days of raw food challenge. Anyone feel like counting it for me.
Pailani - I am sorry - I am as all the rest of us your support system and you go girl, let us know blow by blow how it goes, especially when you hubby reaches for a part of you that is no longer there and then you can grrr as you smile and love him raw - did I say that

I have an update. I explained to dh this afternoon that I was committed to doing this, and I needed his support, not his doubt. That I was taking constructive action to deal with my health issues. That I wouldn't pressure him to do it with me, but I needed him to accept this and make me feel like it was okay. And he took a deep breath and said, "okay."
Gee, that was simple! LOL! :D

You can do this, Pailani! Even though it feels like you're all by yourself, you're not! This forum sure helps ... even just to read other threads and posts.
(And ... I'm sending you a PM response tonight! Yay. I've finally decluttered some other areas of my life enough that I can devote more attention here. I'd reached my goal of spending much less time on the computer (I'd been doing some business online), so to spend more time again I needed to reprogram my brain. But ... the support that's possible here is just so worth it, I think.)
I'm behind you!
I know you can last the 30 days ... and keep on going.

I think the best thing I did to help my hubby understand was to take him to a Dr. Doug Graham lecture. Dr. Graham is an intelligent, thought provoking individual who really speaks to men. Most men need some kind of 'science' to convince them of something. Now, I probably would never have taken him to Victoria Boutenko, because she speaks to women more, and gets your emotions. But then again you never know.
My husband has now accepted that raw is probably going to be the best for a body, but it was a learning experience for him. So now when I go on my raw stints he no longer questions it. If your hubby doesn't know anything about the science behind raw, he'll just think it's some kind of foo foo new age thing. If you can find some materials for him it would help him to understand and be a better support system for you.

My husband doesn't mind that I do raw...as long as I don't bug him about it! So, about once a day, I saw "raw, raw, raw, raw, raw" just as a tease and as a reminder of what I'm doing. Besides that, I don't say a word and just enjoy.
It works for now and he is supportive this way.

My hat's off to you for going raw alone in your household. It's a gutsy thing to do! I read a lot of people on this board are cooking for their families and eating raw. This is the first diet I actually cleaned out the cupboards. Change is a little scary to the ones closest to us-- and this is a pretty big commitment. But when you're just bursting over some change or craving, hit the site. It'll help and you've already encouraged others!

I will! And now I have a couple of recipes for those cravings!
<<and you've already encouraged others!>>
Thank you, I hope I'm able to give back a little of what I've received here!

ROFL!! Monkey boy know if you should be flattered or freaked out?!
Pailani - it's good that your DH has seen why you're doing this and will give you passive (if not very active or inspiring support).
I'm not even mentioning the word "Raw" to my DH - just saying I want to eat more healthy food to get my energy levels back. He's changed a couple of little habits too (now starts the day with fresh fruit & juices and finishes with fruit or dates -albeit with a cup of coffee still...)
I guess there's enough support on the boards regardless of what family members do/say ....but it makes it nicer to have someone cheering for you at home too...

I live alone right now, so I've been cheering myself on. I actually say Yay or Good for you or even I'm so proud of you when I make something scrumptious raw or when I conquer a craving. It works! :D My neighbors may think I'm nuts, though!
