What do you think about infrared saunas for health? I hear that they are good for detoxing. Or am I killing cells by heating myself up? I thought maybe I could get better, faster. I just want to make sure I'm not going to cancel out any health benefits of eating raw by using the sauna.

Thanks...

Ellen

There is a lot of information on the benefits of saunas out there. I'm not sure if I have ever read anything negative. As long as a person is taking proper precautions....

Raising the core body temp is supposed to be very good for cancer patients. When I was diagnosed I went on ebay and got one of those little one person steam saunas. I don't end up using it as much as I would have liked because I am pretty tall and I have to fold up so tightly to sit in it that it really bothers my knees to be bent that far.

Then I saw two kinds where you actually laid down: one that looked like a sleeping bag, and one I really liked that looked like a pup tent . I think that is an infrared one. Relaxing!

I saw plans for making one in a closet with heat lamps above. That would be a dry sauna too. I am interested in that so I am trying to get my husband to find time to put that together for me.

I have been using infared sauna at my health club for about a year. I love them! My skin is so much clearer. After I have a sauna my whole body feels cleansed inside and out - it feels amazing. It is supposed to be very good for weight loss also as you can burn 600 calories in half an hour. I am saving to buy one for my home.

I have never heard about IR-sauna, beside the fact that all sauna aggregates emits infrared light.
However, there are healing properties in the red-infrad light not yet understood by science.

This remember med of something funny...
I made an experiment with dolphins in a dolphinarium. From a big under-water window I projected colored light into the water. The dolphins could choose to swim into the lightzone or stay out.

The colors of the rainbow scale were projected from violet to red and back again, one at a time. One color aroused an immediate, strong attention from the dolphins: intensive RED. A dolphin swam up to the window, stayed in a vertical position with the abdominal side against the light, completely motionless for a couple of minutes.

I looked at the dolphin, astonished, and suddenly felt the feelings of the dolphin; happiness, blessedness. I merged with the dolphin, I felt what the dolphin felt, I was the dolpin. These feelings increased, I couldn't talk, move, breath. This huge feeling increased to the limit of pain. I couldn't take anymore.
In that moment the dolphin broke the magic, went down to a horisontal position. My teared eyes looked into the dolphin's eye, and I saw a... (this sounds ridicoulus, an eye can't emit a flash)...

Well, this is out of topic, but there is a subtile connection. I'll start a separate thread on raw food and color.

they come and go at Costco (they only stock them occasionally but you could call around). Maybe that helps with the cost. They looked pretty nice, all cedar inside and out.
