I was reading my husband's men's magizine this morning and I saw an article where one of the models eats raw. I've heard it's a healthy way to eat but I'm not sure how to get started. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

Hey NY - welcome to the site! One of the first things I would suggest is googling "raw food" you'll get a ton of information. This is the best place for support and advice, but you may want to read as many FAQ's as you can so that you understand the whys and hows of raw, beforehand. Likely you'll have a question that many others have asked which is why the raw FAQ's will help tremendously.

Also try your local library and checking out some books on raw food. Victoria Boutenko has a great one called 'raw family' which is very informative. Of course Allisa's book and dvd are great when you are ready to try raw for yourself.

If you are really ready to get started, just eat tons of fruit for breakfast, and more fruit or salads for lunch and dinner. Eat a lot until you are full. You can find many recipes for transitioning which are heavier and more satisfying to a newbie on www.fromsadtoraw.com. Also check out some of the journals here in the journal site to see what people are eating who are doing the raw challenge.

All the best to you.

I would suggest getting Alissa's book and DVD's. They are better then any other book out there and it will walk you through how-to go raw. There is a 4-week guide in it that you can follow. There is so much information in it also about how to stay on this diet adn how to really live this way in your everyday life. There are also about 300 recipes.
When you watch the DVD's you actually feel like you’re in a seminar with her! Its long, 3 1/3 hours but there are two women asking questions the whole time and tasting the food and loving it. You also get to see how she makes about 18 recipes i think it is.
Its really the only thing you will need as i did not find many of the other books that helpful except for the recipes.
Peace and Blessings,
Pat

Welcome and for me, I am a diabetic, and a bucn of unhelathy stuff - well it has reduced my blood sugar and lowered blood pressure, lost some weight - had some surgey and am up today for 4 hours and that is suppose to be unheard of and ..... did I say enough. I am a Long Island Girl

Both Sharon (hey sharon welcome back from where you been) and Pailani provided excellent guidance - this board also will feed your mind and soul as you feed your mouth with the information.

I don't know where you are in NY, but if the city isn't too far - there are some wonderful resturants that can help you with your research -

One I highly recommend is on the website - www.rawsoul.com - Lillian and Eddie Butler are wonderful and provide great meals and also instructions.

LOL! I think that was pattie, not pailani who responded. But, since my name was brought up, I will respond. :)

I'm guessing that the model you saw was Carol Alt, she has a brand new book out about eating raw. I've read it, and it's a nice introduction to the topic for someone who's not familiar with it. But I don't have much to compare it to, most of what I know is what I read online. So doing a search for articles about eating raw is a good idea. Alissa has a little bit online, which can get you started.

Hi, welcome to the board.

I would suggest Alissa's book and DVDs. I've tried three recipes so far since receiving it on Friday and the recipes are simple to make and wonderful. Even my non-raw husband and son devoured the date nut torte.
