Apologies if this is posted elsewhere, but I couldnt see it.

About raw veg....... What is edible and what isnt?

I cant imagine eating raw potatoes; raw turnip; raw cabbage.

Or am I wrong? Thanks.

Does anyone have a good link on this type of question?

You can eat all of those listed raw. After a while on raw, you'll begin to really like the crispness of your food.

As far as the cabbage I have always liked it raw in salads and "raw cole slaw".

You can eat raw spuds? I agree with cabbage but raw potatoes sounds weird, lol and turnip when I come to think of it. Do you grate them or what? Thanks.

some people just juice some of the veggies, which they don't really like the taste of, w/ veggies that are more appealing for their tastebuds.

Everyone likes diff. things. You don't necessarily have to eat the veggies which don't appeal to you raw. Though most are very nutritious, & juicing them might be a good idea. Just a suggestion. :D Experiment around. You'll never know you'll discover liking a particular veggie you never tried raw to be your new favorite fix.

As for me, I was looking for a raw spaghetti & tried using zuchinni since that was recommended. It wasn't for me & so just replaced spaghetti w/ other raw dishes. :p

Are there any veges that should be avoided raw (ie toxic)?

Cabbage is actually so much healthier raw just like many other veggies.

I've heard brocolli and cauliflower are not the healthiest eaten raw.

I stick to eating fruit and juicing veg. It's not so much that they taste bad, but they just take so long to eat. You have to munch them for ages! I tried eating a raw cauliflower a few weeks ago and it took me 20 minutes just to eat 1/8 of it. You really need to spend time munching each mouthful before swollowing and to get the juices out of it. It's ok if you don't eat a lot in a day anyway but otherwise you can spend a long time not eating a lot. Juicing on the other hand you consume it within seconds...

Cassava!
http://researchnews.osu.edu/archive/cassava.htm
"Cassava is the third-most important food source in tropical countries, but it has one major problem: The roots and leaves of poorly processed cassava plants contain a substance that, when eaten, can trigger the production of cyanide.
ThatÂ’s a serious problem for the 500 million people who rely on cassava as their main source of calories..."

Sweat potatoes are no problem as far as I know. at least I have survived.

"raw potatoes sounds weird"
Oh, after an initial period raw potatoes is a delicacy compared with cooked potatoes.

Cloudberry- I think it's because they can be hard to digest. I've also heard there's toxins in them. I would research it If I were you though.

I love both of those raw too!

Has anyone tried these? I'm a newbie and, while open-minded, I like to hear they are tried and true first. ;)

slice, chop, or grated, I like them all. I used to eat raw potatoes as a child when my mother used to cut them up before putting them in the pot to make mashed potaotes. She thought I was weird. :p

I LOVE raw cabbage. Turnips I enjoy in juice and I occasionally make potato chips with the potatoes.

Can you use turnips or parsnips as raw "noodles?" I'm always looking for alternatives:>

Potatoes can be eaten raw. My mom and daughter love them eaten out of hand with salt on them. Not me! They can be put in the dehydrator. I haven't tried that yet.

Turnips can be eaten raw. In fact that's the only way I've ever eaten them. Cabbage is commonly eaten raw in green salads and often mixed with carrots, onions and other vegetables to make coleslaw.

I can't really think of any vegetable that can't be eaten raw, although you might not care for the taste of it. I'm not overly fond of raw green beans unless they are haricot verts. Those are yummy!

My grandpa would pull a turnip out of the ground, wash it and slice it with his pocket knife for the grandkids to eat. If we were lucky enough to get a whole one to ourselves, we'd just eat it like an apple. He did the same with onions! At home, I cut them in sticks for veggie platters.

Victoria Boutenko was saying in one of her books that she is inventing a jaw exerciser to make up for the lack of chewing if you are eating most of your greens in smoothies. Talk about the other side of the coin! Cute!

Very new potatoes taste best raw. We have eaten them right out in the garden. Spray them off and they are pretty sweet and crunchy.

My husband had a bout with something one summer and spent time off work feeling pretty sick. He couldn't seem to stop eating raw potatoes. He loved them. He pretty much didn't eat anything else. When his body got enough of whatever it was in the potatoes that he was lacking, he went back to "normal".

On that point, how about pulses, beans etc. Are all of these okay to consume raw (I imagine you just soak them?)

I vaguely recall someone, somewhere saying that red kidney beans are dangerous to eat raw? Sorry to sound negative, just dont want stomach cramps, lol. :)

I read somewhere that indeed drinking smoothies can by-pass the original mouth enzyme brakedown and it is important!

When My father (then 72) when on his complete detox, his natural doc told him to chew his smoothies :)

Ok I know that sounds odd but it makes perfect sense to me. just hold it in your mouth a moment "fake" at chewing it and then swallow.

It is the easiest advice I can offer and I hope that helps :)
