Hello.

Have any of you had weight loss and detox success doing a partial water fast? I'm considering water fasting all day and then eating 100% raw fruits and veggies in the evening. Any thoughts or experiences??

For detox yes, weight loss I'm not sure. More likely if you're just starting out you'll be really hungry come dinner time and be much more likely to overeat, or choose non-raw options. If you really want to eat less during the day, consuming primarily juices and blended foods during the day with perhaps one solid meal would be beneficial. Also would provide you with the nutrients that you need because in the beginning you don't have the mineral reserves to water fast. If you're new to this, start out eating all raw foods, or transition into it if that is right for you. Just eat raw. That is the easiest way.

From my own experience, I had fasted for 14 days on water only. It was something I just did out of the blue, b/c I was feeling very ill both physically & mentally. The fast was def. hard but very well worth it. In just 14 days, my mind became much clearer. Physically, I went from a size 11 to a size 5 in junior's jeans. My tops used to be a M or L, but now I wear them in XS. I have not gained any of it back.

After the fast, I went 100% raw w/ no problem at all in regards to cravings that is. I believe I'm still detoxing, b/c my skin is breaking out. :o I know that sounds bad, but the dark bags under my eyes are almost non-existent. Nails that were always so weak are now strong & long. I can run for miles every other day & do some martial arts for the remaining days. Things I haven't been able to do before w/o running out of breath or feeling utterly exhausted.

Goodluck w/ whatever you decide to do. I'm excited to hear about your results!!! :D

Did you weigh yourself before and after the fast?
If so how much weight did you lose?

Could you tell me more about your experience? How'd you psych yourself up and get your mind ready for this?

Before the fast, I usually fluctuate b/wn 135-140 at 5'4. I didn't weigh myself until after the fast which was 102. Haven't weighed myself lately, but I do believe I haven't gained. The new clothes still fits nicely or actually I'm thinking of going to the thrift shop now. My new clothes seem to be getting loose. I may have to rely on little clothes from the thrift stores until my weight stabilizes.

As for how I psyched myself up, I just got to this pt. when I felt like nothing -- empty. I was kind of lost & wasn't sure what I wanted. I'm 21, & I really felt suicidal. I hate to share that w/ you all, but that's how I felt. Before this, I remember having read on fasting. It was really just a fluke. Kind of thought...I had nothing to lose. Why not try this out? The first 2-3 days, I had headaches. Then, I was telling myself I never wanted to feel those headaches or empty ever again & so perservered w/ the fast.

By the end of the week, I was feeling a lot happier & wanted suddenly to do so many things. I did feel extremely weak by the end of the first week. B/c I felt so great mentally (though feeling weak physically), the mental benefit of fasting gave me faith to continue to 14 days. I had read that 14 days was the longest a person can do fasting while unsupervised. So that's why I just did 14 days. Perhaps after being raw for a yr, I will do a month long fast. Who knows. Right now, I'm still detoxing even w/ raw & have a lot of energy.

Hope my experience w/ fasting will help a bit!! I really love this forum! :o I'm currently looking up some info. about food combining through the forum, b/c I'm looking into staying as healthy as possible now.
