View Full Version : Obsessive RAW???

so, if I choose to be 100% raw, does that make me strange? a fanatic? obsessive?

I suppose it REALLY doesn't matter if I eat some cold pressed olive oil, that may or may not be raw, then I can top it off with some almond butter, that may or may not be raw, then I can have some cashews, which most certainly aren't raw, and then some canned olives, then I can add just a dab of bottled salad dressing on my salads, and I COULD have just a bit of that peanut butter, we KNOW that's not raw, and how about that lightly steamed veggie primavera, with just a little pasta, and that fettuccini alfredo, with tons of cheese, and ...
get the picture.

I JUST CAN'T GO THERE.

I MUST be raw, call me a fanatic, call me obsessed, call me what ever you want to call me, but call me 50 pounds thinner, than 3 months ago, call me healthier at a blood preasure 131/79, which used to be 276/179, call me younger looking, than I've been in 15 years, call me feeling better, abel to climb stairs, when just 2 months ago, I was looking at walkers, but MOST of all, call me totally committed to MY RAW way of life forever.

You see, I AM a fanatic about eating the ONLY way that I can, to be healthy,

I AM obsessed with my own health, heaven knows the doctors aren't, and the nutritionists have NO CLUE.

I AM STRANGE when it comes to totally taking responsibility for my own health and well being, and if that makes me anything, IT MAKES ME SMART!!!!

So true!! That's amazing what you're doing. My mom kinda thinks I'm odd for wanting everything to be raw! You're right, doctors and nutritionists (especially nutritionists who make NO sense and are confused when you tell them your vegetarian and mess up their game plans! lol.) don't know what they're doing!

I hear you, RP!

But I would like to add something:

Sometimes all you can do is TRY to be as raw as possible. What does that mean?

For me it means I am living in a country where I just don't have access to everything being raw or organic. And, sorry, I cannot have everything shipped here, that is a waste of kerosene and I do also care about environment ;)

What I do is to enjoy everything that I know is raw and to ignore the little bits that might be or not be raw (e.g. my vinegar, my almonds, my mustard). If I start cutting out everything I don't believe to be truly raw and, best, organic, I would be stuck with some veggies and olive oil. And that's not an exaggeration...

I think it's good to be as "obsessive" as necessary and possible.

Hi madmel,

yep, I totally agree, I CAN'T eat any non raw, because it just creeps back into my life, like I said above, but I do know that many people can do this, and for them, I say "GREAT", it just doesn't work for me, trust me, I've tried it every way I can think of.

I know that there are alot of people who eat less than 100% raw, and that is great for them, it just doesn't work for me.

I agree. I do think it's odd that the most SAD person thinks we're the most "obsessed." We just want what we know is best for our health...if that makes us "health freaks" then go ahead...call us freaks :p

RP , did you say that cashews aren't raw? I've been using them and I am committing to being 100% raw after July 4. I buy nuts that say they are raw...

Hi RP -

you lost me at this above statement. Why is PB that is made from raw peanuts not raw? I know there is the aflatoxin issue, but not raw?

I know that wasn't the point of your post, but it was new info for me and I want to understand.

In reference to the Peanut Butter I "think" RP is refferring to the fact that heat above 115* is used to extract nuts from there shell thereby voiding the raw aspect. Even when they are not dry roasted in you grind them at wild oats yourself, they are not raw.

Time to get out the morter and pestal (sp?) :)

I totally agree! I'm glad to be labelled obsessed if that is what it means. Bring it on!

I can't imagine that raw peanut butter would taste anything like the peanut butter I'm used to - raw peanuts are so different from roasted ones.

Right. Raw peanut butter tastes like raw legumes - which is what they are. Raw green peas and green beans are palatable, but raw dried beans are not...

RP you are walking your path and being your true self. Mucho RESPECT for you woman! :) Not many people are themselves. You're not a fanatic, you're
a rarity! A gem!

Isn't it funny? When you tell people you're raw they think you're a fanatic or "weird" but we're told to eat 5-9 servings a day (my Dr preaches 10 raw to her patients) of fresh fruits and veg for good health. This motto is in articles, weight loss programs, news stories on diabetes et al. If people actually ate 10 fresh items a day, they would be high raw anyway and the healthier for it. Strange dichotomy in our culture.

What's so funny 'bout peace love and understanding?

What's so funny 'bout, fruits, veg, and nutterstanding?

Hi MM, I hear you. I believe that intention is everything and in circumstances like yours you are doing the best you can. Perhaps at some other point you will have more access to raw food.

Not everyone is able to grow their own food or have farmer's markets or health food stores within easy distance. And like you, I understand about the environmental dilemma of buying produce that has to be shipped: is the gasoline, ie pollution added to the air worth my raw? This is an interesting question for those of us who live near some of the big health food stores. Yes, at Whole Foods we can get mangoes from Mexico or South America, we can get produce from many countries on earth, but just think of the labor, the gas (or jet fuel) used to get it to me (and all the other folks) around the US. My town as three weekly farmer's markets....I am lucky!

So, don’t be discouraged, you are doing great!

Well RAW, RAW, RAW, for you Priestiest. I do agree with you. I have no trouble staying TOTALY RAW. I keep nuts in the car. If I go somewhere I take my own food.
This is my decission that I made. I owe no one any explaination. I have no desire for cooked food. I can't be tempted. If I wanted some I could cook it. I DON'T WANT IT.. I used to LOVE CHEESE, I haven't even tried to make any. I gave it up.
I think God I am older and know what I want to do and it ant no bodys business but my own. As long as my belly is full, I am happy. This is my Journey and if I have to go by myself, I'M GONE...............

Sprouts are as good or better than fresh vegetables, just a thought for you Mel
