Hi All!
I've been away from the forum for a while. Eveything's wonderful, but I've just been putting my energy into off-line, real-life stuff and not getting sidetracked by the 'puter. Now, I've just popped back on to tell you about my cool experience. So, here goes --
Even though I've been on the raw path for almost 2 years -- and all raw since January 2005, I've never been drawn to fasting. Some of my students have ... and I've advised it for health crises and specific purposes. But, for me, it just hasn't been the time. Until recently.
Last week I did a 4-1/2 day retreat in Arizona -- Eden Hot Springs -- with David Wolfe and Kerrie Cushing, and I can't recommend it highly enough. It was SO much more than a fast -- it's called a Rejuvenation retreat for a reason. The beverages -- living light liquid nutrients -- were plentiful and delicious (raw chef Bruce Horowitz from Seattle and a kitchen full of mad choppers, slicers, juicers, seasoners), and everything else was amazing: morning yoga, afternoon talks by David and other raw folk, trance dance, fire dance, mud baths, the natural mineral hot springs, sweat lodge (!), nature wild edibles hike, the body workers and, most of all, the incredibly strong vortex there (stronger than Sedona, Machu Picchu and other sacred spots on earth according to David and Kerrie who've been to them all). Miraculous happenings happened.
Anyway, it was well worth the 10 hour drive for me. Others flew in from NYC, Taiwan, Norway, Chicago, Texas ... and other locales all around the globe. A wondefully diverse, warm, and open group of people ranging from a shaman from Brooklyn to a raw food restaurant owner from Salt Lake City with the most beautiful deep gaze ever. Even though it could have been considered a financial stretch, it was absolutely worth it for me.
The fasting part was effortless, I broke the fast very carefully and according to the guidelines, but ... ever since, I haven't felt like eating much solid food at all. Yesterday was really the first day I had any combined food. Other than liquids, it's been mono -- fruits, coconut water, with some supersmoothies. I'm actually not interested in the foods I was eating before ... or even in salad dressings with oils. And almost no desire for desserts. Interesting ...
Oh, did I mention that I have SO much more energy!?! I'm back to 4 to 5 hours of sleep, hyper-alertness, physcial stamina (worked out tonight with a new personal trainer -- killer!! absolute killer -- as in anarobic really fast stuff - pushups, situps, squats, etc. -- and, even though I've been doing nothing more than walking an hour a day and a bitsy bit of yoga, I made it through), and did I mention an abundance of energy.
So, I'm hoping each of you creates a way to go to the next ... or the next one after that ... rejuvenation retreat. Then, fasten your seatbelts!
I am not one to have my picture taken with "celebrities" -- just not my style. However, David had been so caring and focused on me the night before during the sweat lodge, that I wanted to get this snapped -- I was so grateful. I'd had some very deep fears come up about the sweat ... and he stayed with me on it even though he was occupied with running it and doing some serious challenges to people. I hadn't expected this at all, but, because of it, I ended up feeling safe and was able to have a full and transforming experience. So ... we're both happy here. I wanted to share that to balance out some other critical energy that occasionally arises here about him. Okay!! Enough! I'm outta here!!!
