I'm wondering if anyone has improved thyroid function on a raw food diet. It would seem to be that a resounding yes would be heard to this question. However, I've been on the diet, at least 80-90% raw and my thyroid is worse than ever. I have Hashiomotos, an autoimmune disease. Looking for guidance/encouragement to continue.

I was taking some medication a few years ago, and one of the side effects was that my body decided my thyroid was the enemy. It no longer functions.

I've been mostly raw for the past year plus, and have been through three changes of thyroid medications, and the dosage just keeps going up. I'm currently on 3 grains of armor thyroid, and my last test showed I'm up from .83 to 4.3. That means the meds will need to be increased yet again.

I don't know why it just won't settle in at some number and stay there, but it doesn't. Now, a few foods that I eat are considered goiterogens, meaning they naturally would slow down a functioning thyroid if eaten in quantity. I don't know if this means it slows down the medication, too. Beats me why this is happening.

So, no, for me anyway, my thyroid isn't coming back to life, and the meds aren't working very well either. *sigh*

Wish I had better news for ya, but I don't.

However, no way am I going back to the SAD, either. I just feel too good to leave the raw lifestyle. And one never knows, there may be a miracle in it a few years down the road. I am not holding my breath, but this lifestyle is preferable to the "other" one!

I have autoimmune thyroid disease too -- Graves. Had to have my thyroid irradiated and am on t3 + t4. After five years, finally things are looking good. I feel good, my weight has normalized, and my meds have stopped going up. Increasing raw helped a bit, yoga helped a bunch, accupuncture and Chinese Medicine helped even more. A lot of yoga poses are thyroiud stimulating and normalizing -- even my very conservative endo agrees with this.

Good luck! There is hope!

yes I have/had it. I am off of all meds and my periods are back on track, I'm losing weight, I got energy, I feel good, and I am having normal morning tempatures. Yeah! All from just doing raw.

Since going high raw, my meds have been cut back from about 2 grains Armour Thyroid & .75mg of Levoxyl down to 3/4 grains Armour Thyroid & .25mg of Levoxyl.

Here are some other testimonies:

Jaime was on 180mg of Armour Thyroid. After one year of being 100% raw, she is totally off her meds. Plus she went from 300 pounds down to 140.

I'm so glad you asked this!! I have the same kind of thyroid problem. Hoshimoto. I am going to my endocrinologist next week for cholesterol testing, etc. I've been raw 9 days, and I was just diagnosed with it and I don't like taking meds...so hopefully it will clear up.
