How much protein are you taking in? I find most of my protein comes from nuts and seeds and I gotta eat a lot to get a decent amount of protein. Unless I eat them throughout the day, I am getting it all in one meal, which isn't good. Eating throughout the day limits my variety because of food combining.
What are your experiences?

a decent amount of protein. What are you calling "decent"?
Unless I eat them throughout the day, I am getting it all in one meal,
So, you're not including that which is naturally contained in fruits and veggies then?
which isn't good. How are you figuring this isn't good?
I realize these questions are not exactly in alignment w/ your post yet, I'm curious as to how you are coming to these conclusions. Thank you in advance for your responses. :)

I usually get between 7 and 11 grams...but I think everyone is different in their dietary needs. I could go on and on about variation in a species and all that genetic stuff but I wont bore you. lol. Right now I seem to be doing very well like this...but who knows maybe I'll come to realize that my body needs a different amount. But if I do decide I need more I want it to be my body who tells me this. How much do you get now and are you trying to reach a certain amount? I know you need structure, and I like to be doing this RIGHT as well...but I also think that are not exact amounts of proteins, fats, carbs that EVERY person has to follow. I could be wrong, but it just what I think...it goes along with the whol variation thing ;)

Wow, maybe I'm the weirdo, but I'm getting easily 50 grams protein per day! And the majority of it from fruits/veggies. Yes, I do eat one ounce hempseed daily, which has a goodly amount of protein, but stuff like kale, beet greens, etc. also have a lot of protein. I eat at least 4-6 cups greens daily.
I don't eat a lot of nuts, but still get enough to keep me going. On days I'm going to be out and about, I add 1/2 scoop whey protein to my smoothie. Nope, not raw, but keeps me from getting hungry for 4-5 hours, until I can get back home to eat again. That typically adds 10 grams protein to my day, but still I don't usually go over 50 grams daily.
You might try using fitday.com just to see what your protein is daily from the fruits/veggies/leafy greens you eat. You'll be amazed!
Enjoy!

I've learned that cooking destroys about half the protien in a food. The following is in Alissa's book and posted here under: http://rawfoodtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3708
Charlie Able has this to say about the raw food diet: http://www.charliesgym.info/wst_page2.html
He talks about this but here is the link: http://www.healthpromoting.com/Articles/articles/protein.htm

Thanks everyone for the great replies!
Revell - if I don't make a conscious effort, I end up eating between 20 - 30 grams of protein a day. I think decent would be @60. I do include that which I get in fruits and veggies. It is there, but not alot, according to Fitwatch (http://fitwatch.com). Ihave learned it is best to get different nutrients throughout the day rather than all at once because the body can only assimilate so much at once.
Lunar*Fey - I agree. I am not looking for exactness, just wanting to see how others who are paying attention to this are doing.

I did use fitday.com to keep track of my intake. I just wanted to make sure I was getting enough calories. It's important to know that the RDA is based on a SAD diet. If you've ever seen posts by Fruitarianone, you'll see that he has no protien deficiency. He said that he eats about 10 pounds of fruit a day, and his wife, about 6. I can't find those posts now but they were on his site. Perhaps you've seen his posts here, under "Excercise and Fitness While Raw" Here's a thread of his: http://rawfoodtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14815

Hi RawNut -
I have seen FruitarianOne's posts. One in particular that I remember stated that he had a disc of watermelon, 2 mangos, and an avocado. They were in pictures and that was for the whole day. I cannot survive on that little food, especially if I am lifting that day!
I am not sure how he does it....

you don't make protein by eating protein, you do by eating amino acids, which are in green leafy veggies, and when you are in your first year on this planet when you need the most protein for growing 100% of your body weight in one year, breast milk is between 1 to 4% protein, so that would be the MOST that you would ever need.

Veganmom,
There is sooo much about protein and amino acids here. I do remember a post or link about how doctrors, even western doctors, have never witnessed a case of protein deficiency durring their practice. Worry not. As RP has said, even newborns get adequet protien from their mother's milk, which is about the same amount gotten from fruit, let alone greens, avacado, nuts, and seeds.
Let me go ask Frutarian One how he does it and where that link is.

I read this post because I assumed that it was one to help me to reduce my protein and was surprised to find that it was the other way.
We are all eating too much protein. Mothers milk contains between 2% and 4% and is designed to sustain us when we are growing the fastest. Why do we question natures design and convince us that we need more than this. I would think that if you are eating a varied diet you would find it hard to get too little protein and easy to get too much.
I never deliberatly eat something to boost my protein and do sometimes deliberatly find myself excluding something for that reason.
