Hello All,

I've been reading a lot about people's concern with B12, and how many food sources do not provide the form that is available to our body (I don't really know the science behind it right now...just read it here recently). I just bought Nutrex Hawaiian's spirulina, and it states on the bottle:

VItamin B12 (human active)- 2.0mcg

Does this mean that it's in the form that is readily usable by our body?

Also, does anyone know if this is raw?

Thanks in advance.

The brand name for what, B-12 supplement?

Spirulina contains primarily B12 analogues. These show up as B12 in some nutritional tests, but are not usable by the human body. In fact, they can block absorption of true B12.

Do you know why then it says on the bottle that this b12 is human active, whatever that means?

Could it be an additive?

Thanks for your thought, Craig. I don't think it's an additive. There's nothing added. The ingredient says that it's 'All Natural Hawaiian Spirulina'. It's under the nutritional content where it list the amounts of each vitamin & mineral that it says, B12 (human active) 2mcg

Yeah, because the FDA isn't required to check claims that supplements make. They're probably claiming that it contains B12 based on old research. In some tests, both true B12 and the analogues show up as B12, which is where many of these claims about vegan products having B12 comes from.

Or, depending on their processing, it *could* be real B12 from being contaminated with animal fecal matter.
