Hey Everyone!

I have been enjoying all the recommendations for "other" raw food prep books out there as much as the rest of you but. . .

I really wanted to bring the focus back to Alissa's book Living on Live Food, especially for those who are new to this forum and may not actually be aware that Alissa has an entire other section to this site loaded with great informationa and a raw foods store!

http://www.alissacohen.com/

If you are new to this site and raw foods please consider Alissa's book and DVD for the start of your raw foods library! Alissa has worked very hard to provide us with this AMAZING platform for knowledge & support and I am so thankful.

All the best! :p

What a great post! I couldn't agree more. Alissa's book was my first raw food prep book, and I know I could NEVER have gone raw without it. She makes it all very simple and accessible. I even take her book with me when we go out of town - I never want to be caught without it. And the DVD is SO helpful too. She makes it all look very simple and even fun. Some of my favorite tried and true recipes are from Alissa's book, and I am still trying some new ones too.

I think we all owe a great deal to Alissa Cohen. And let me add, she is as sweet and good a person as I have ever met. Her desire to help people achieve better health is real and comes from her heart.

Her book and DVD are definitely worth the purchase.

Yes, I really enjoyed the book. It was amazing on how many of the same raw views I had as Alissa in her book. I hope to take a look at her DVD's soon, but, first on my list is getting RP's breakfast book, but I gotta wait until I get my allowance like a good girl, LOL!

Great points. Her website is how it all began for me in January. The knowledge has been so inspiring.

I don't know how Alissa could ever be paid what she is worth. That book...!!! Totally amazing. This site....!!! Totally amazing. Her courses...!!! I may owe her my life if this diet heals my body of cancer, or even if it gives me more time than I would have had, because this is how I learned about this diet.

Thank You Alissa, and may you be blessed!
You will never likely know all the good you have done.

I found this book really really good. I previously bought the Uncook book by Juliano about a year prev. and really didn't like it. I'm sure all the food does taste wonderful.. but a typical recipe must of had about 20 ingredients and not all the ingredients you can pick up anywhere (not for me anyway). Alisa's book on the other hand is AMAZING! Most of them are very simple and straightfoward to make, and taste wonderful. I never thought eating raw could taste as good as it does with these recipes.

I have found too, having the book has made the forum just that much more wonderful. It's great to be on the same page as everyone else. If you don't have it get it and if you can't get it right now put it on the top of your want list and hang out with us!

I believe I have most every raw food book and uncook book out there! And Alissa's is the one the most used, most food spilled on it, and it lives on the kitchen counter not on the bookshelf with the others. I'll sure throw in my huge THANK YOU for your book and DVD set Alissa, it is still the most basic and easy to use raw book I have.

I love it "most spilled on" - lol! I had written Alissa last year asking when she is bringing out another book perhaps one for kids. I then suggested she make the next one a bit lighter as I had taken mine into the bathtub and dropped it as it was so heavy. Her mail reply was lot and lots of laughter! :p

Alissa's book was my intro to raw and by far my favorite and most used of all the raw books I own. Her 30 day challenge with the shopping list and recipes made it very possible to accomplish. I am forever grateful to her for her wonderful gift to all of us.

I also have the DVDs which were helpful to see some of the techniques and to also get to know Alissa a bit. Her personality really comes out in the DVDs.

So thank you to Alissa, and thank you also to eachpeachpearplum for positng this great thread!

Raw Blessings,
Julie

Her book has changed my life too! I love watching the DVDs inbetween, I find her incredibly inspiring and motivational.

One thing though:
I would love to see that book as a eBook - easier to "carry" around, you can print out single recipes and take them to the kitchen and for people like me who live far away there would be no shipping cost (which is higher than the cost of the book).

I love eBooks anyway, I am a digital child and my laptop and iPod and I are inseparable.

I read and re-read that book every day. I don't have a DVD player yet so can't watch that but I will dive back into the book at every craving, just to get my mind back on where it needs to be. thanks so much to Alissa :)

Alissa's book is by my side as we speak. I lose weight just carrying it around! :p

It's full of great information and inspiration and gets to the point! I LOVE IT!

The DVD is fun too...all smiles and laughter while you learn.

Yes, I totally agree with everyone. I LOVE Alissa's book and DVD's. I tried to start the challenge last month but without the book I felt lost. Now I'm on day 3 and feel like I have a plan. Thanks Alissa!
I also feel like I can relate to her. When she talks about bringing fudge into the bathroom to eat when out with friends I started laughing because I used to do that. Not with raw foods, but with a "healthier dessert" Now I think I'll try it with the raw fudge (haven't made it yet but I'm excited to try it.)
If you haven't bought the book or the DVD yet, you definitely have to!

And if anyone's interested, I posted this about getting Alissa's book spiral bound (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=43518&highlight=kinko%27s). And then someone suggested having it bound as two books - keeping all the recipes together as one book and everything before the recipes bound seperately, I thought that was a great idea - and wish I'd thought of that when I had mine bound. I've had Kinko's bind about a dozen of my cookbooks - they're great. :D

Excellent idea; can you elaborate about the binding process from a pre-existing book?!

Hi EPPP ~ I'll try... The cost depends on the thickness of the book. If I remember correctly, Alissa's book was around $8 - but I could be off by a dollar or so.

You decide what you want them to do with the cover of the book; leave 'as is', or what I like to do is get it laminated. That's about a dollar or so extra. There's another option, but I don't recall what it is.. They have to cut off the binding, but it's not really losing any to speak of since now you can open the book flat, whereas you couldn't before.

Now - if you want to have a hard cover bound, they can do this too, except you have to lose the cover. So - you can opt to take in the dust cover and they can sturdy that up and laminate it too. I've had this done and it turns out great too.

Kinko's isn't the only copy store that will do this, but it's the only one that I've had it done at and I've always been pleased with the results.

I hope this helps? *Ü*

I was just on another site where someone was complaining about the price of a $30 book. The way it was stated, I'm pretty sure it was Alissa's book.

For those who are on the edge of purchasing it, let me give you a few things to consider.

First of all, the time it took to put it together. I've got two books, neither the size of Alissa's and it took HOURS of time getting the recipes together, getting the book laid out, getting it printed, etc.

Alissa has personally created and tested all 300 recipes in there. My understanding is, she doesn't normally do measurements so, she had to figure those and put them in the recipe. That takes more time than you'd think.

Next, compiling, organizing, editing, printing, binding. All takes time, energy, money. She's got what? 365 pages? Many in 4-color. How many mistakes do you see in that book? For me? none! Someone did a GREAT editing job!

The 4-color process quadruples (I think that's what it was on mine) the price of those pages.

She self-published meaning she didn't receive funding of any kind to create this book. She funded it herself. (I could be wrong on this... just going by my experience with my books).

Whatever it is, she's not making a HUGE profit on it which could be why we're not seeing it on Amazon.

Next, whether any of the above is true or not, consider this... with all the information in it ~ the charts, the before's and after's; the explanations, the recipes, the 7-day plan and more, you'd have to purchase 2-3 books to get it all. She's taken the time to put it all into ONE book for you! In actuality, she's SAVING you money! Hellloooo!

Another thing... Alissa put this board up for people to learn the easiest, most fundamental way to begin eating raw, eliminating excess weight, regaining lost health, maintaining current health... there's all KINDS of assistance here from people just starting to people who've been here for years... at her cost! You think this is free? She has to pay a webmaster, she may be paying bandwidth (and this takes up a LOT of bandwidth), she's paying yearly for the URL (least of her costs methinks)....

So, for those of you sitting on the fence about this oh so expensive book, don't think twice. Jump on it.

That's all I gotta say ~

To be honest with all of you, I would have paid DOUBLE for her book and DVD!!! I really would have! I truly mean that!!! It's WORTH every penny you spend for it, and THEN some!!! For the work that Alissa had put into her book--it's really beyond words how much I appreciate her advise! She has truly changed my life and the way that I think about food for the better! I may stumble at times, but I come back because of Alissa's wonderful book! I know many people have it and appreciate it, but I feel like she wrote it just for me! :)

I echo Revvell....if you haven't gotten the book, please do yourself a favor and get it! And, get the DVD too!!! It's truly PRICELESS!!! Yea o.k...., she wrote it just for you, too!!! :)

Actually as I am such a visual person I would also like to stress her DVD. It is totally THE BEST raw DVD on the market - I have many.

I would love to see her "people":) post on her site a little screen playing several segments of the DVD so everyone can get a better idea of what makes it so very special.

I am not sure what is on the DVD. Is it different then the book? I don't have either yet but will be picking up the book next weekend. Is the DVD Alissa showing how she makes the recipes or is it totally different stuff?
Thanks for answering.

I have read the book and watched the DVD. The DVD inspired me to try sprouting and flax crackers for the first time. Watching Alissa makes raw food prep look so easy and attainable for people new to it.

I've read a few books on raw food and have a recipe book. I've gotten recipes off of the net that were OK. But there is just something about Alissa's book. It's so friendly and inviting and she really makes you feel like you can do anything! And the recipes are better than most that I've found so far!

Thanks Alissa for your book and this forum!

A friend of mine has the DVD and he let me borrow it. It's so great seeing how easy everything is and watching the two women (who are new to raw) try the different recipes. The looks on their faces as they ate...they kept on saying how good everything was.

Thanks to the DVD I want to try a Durian (don't know how to spell it). lol I was afraid of them before.
