View Full Version : Stomach Hurts After Eating...
Everytime I eat today I feel nauseous... could that be a detox symptom?

I get that sometimes. I contribute it to detox.

It seems that detoxing is blamed for every ailment or discomfort we rawfooders feel. I know I do it, my wife certainly does. We expect to feel great all the time eating the "best food on the planet". The reality is that that is probably asking too much of our diet. There are so many other variables. Stress is a big one for me. I would probably do better if I (heaven forbid) ate a Big Mac once a week, and learned how to relax and not get all stressed out all the time.
I notice that my stomach hurts every time I eat one of those complicated raw food concoctions that attempt to mimic meat or a bread of some sort that is made up of nuts and/or seeds. (When I go to raw potlucks, I stick with greens and fruit.)
I guess I didn't answer your question...but again, I think we are expecting too much to assume that the food we eat is always going to sit well in our stomachs, all the time.

I second what sevenbravo is saying.
I can also say though, that I have experienced this from time to time. For me it was fleeting and some sort of detox I would guess, because it went away. Big factors for me are, if not detox-- am I really well hydrated (through the day, not right before a meal)? Too many nut? That'll do it to me. Too many weird combinations? What is my mood while eating? Constipation?
I'm on a cleanse right now and sometimes through the day I get bouts of nausea. I find that getting on the rebounder for five minutes clears it right up because it supports my liver. If you have one that might help.
Peppermint tea is always a winner too.
Hope this helps.

I agree with the concept of everything being detox being a bit overdone. It's so easy to dismiss symptoms as detox when maybe it's time to look at your intake and decide if there is a bit of bad food combining, lack of activity, stress, dehydration, etc. Unless we stop dismissing all bad feelings as "just detox" we can't look clearly at what might be contributing to those feelings and more importantly, how to prevent them in the future.

I find that if I eat just fruit in the morning on an empty stomach it starts hurting, but if I have veggies or something it's ok...wierd I say!

I totally get what all your saying, but in my case I strongly feel my stomach pains were from detox. That is because I am very intuned to my body and I would know if it was something else.
As for Shan, I don't know what she eats, allergies, etc....hers may be something all together different.
This is so weird... I'm STILL not feeling well after I eat. I just ate watermelon and my stomach started hurting, then I had diarrhea.
Maybe I should fast? I'm nervous to fast though because I tried fasting (only drinking tons of water) when I was getting a cold a week and a half ago (I keep reading if you're sick it's good to fast) and my head was spinning and my arms and hands were all weak and tingly. Which is weird because in my religion we fast once a month (with NO food or NO liquids) for 24 hrs and I never have any of those problems.
I haven't been eating anything out of the ordinary.... nothing fancy... bananas, apples, a spinach salad (olive oil, flax oil, garlic, cucumber, celery, beets, carrots and pumpkin seeds) watermelon, almonds, dates, pineapple. That's pretty much what I eat every day. Maybe I just have a stomach bug.
As for activity, I just go to Curves for a workout three times per week. Oh well, hopefully it just passes eventually.

Shan,
Did you try fasting in winter? Its best to do it in the summer becasue your body's immune system is temporarily down and your more prone to catching something (Cankers were my problem). You also get cold very easily and the sun gives you vital nutrients that help keep you balanced.

Nope, I tried fasting like two weeks ago.
