Going Raw mid-winter... What was I thinking?

I'm thinking I have the rest of my life to feel better, healthier and to have more to give to others. So here I go. I'm 43ish girl (won't grow up, I tell you, I won't!) with an engineering background and a job as a Coast Guard officer. I've never been a vegetarian but I avoided eating anything 'out of a box' since the turn of the century... I stumbled, quite literally, onto a TV spot on Carol Alt and started scanning the Internet about raw foods and there you all were. There seems to be plenty of diversity here and I've already picked up some great tips but this is really new to me and there is a lot of lingo I don't understand so in the other forums there are going to be some pretty stupid questions from this nutcase!! (can't believe that user name was actually open! You all have such great names, they crack me up!! :D )

Hi, Nutcase! I'm about your age, and, although Carol Alt wasn't my first exposure to a raw, her book was the impetus that compelled me to start in the middle of winter. I was planning to wait until spring! :p But her book gave me some ideas, so I decided not to wait.

Welcome to this group! I too, refuse to grow up. And I am going raw in the winter. It has been soooo cold here---temps. the teens and below! If you can't beat it, join it----I went skiing (raw diet of course) the other night and had a great time!
