Good grief, has anyone seen this?
I couldn't believe it... Young coconuts at $27.00 for only 3... ??? That's $9.00 each!
I did a search because I've been trying to find a local source since I can't find them yet in my area... I'm determined to find someone locally to order them in... I'm certainly not desperate enough to pay these totally outrageous prices... LOL! Holy moly... Here's a link:

LOL, I buy about 2 a week. I usually pay .
79 to .99 in season and
.99 to 1.59 out of season.
That is some markup prices. I hope it includes the shipping.

you know, i called our local publix supermarket and spoke to the produce manager. i asked him if he could order thai coconuts. That's the official name for young coconuts. he called me back 2 days later and said that he could special order them for me. they were like 2.37 each. i got a case for like 22 dollars. i was hoping that they would be a bit less. we do have a co-op in my area where i can order bi-weekly. and i have access to the coconuts there at like 2.10 each. that's a good deal! but sice it's a co-op, we all split the gas and delivery. so sometimes i might end up paying a bit more in the long run. well, i am rambling. anyways , you should call your local grocery stores and speak to the produce mamager and see if they could do that for you. hope this helps. also go to living-foods.com and they have a place on there where you can order them. i never checked into pricing though!
blessings,
summer

You'd be better off checking an Asian market (if you have one in the area) than special ordering through a regular grocery store. Even if the Asian market doesn't carry thai coconuts normally, they can probably order them more cheaply than most stores.

I've heard so many people who pay $10 each for these, and I can find them for anywhere from $.79 to $1.29 each. so I feel very lucky.
we can get the regular brown ones too for about $1.00 each.

I've (still!) yet to try one of these. I haven't seen any in any stores I've been in. I haven't gone to whole foods since before I went raw. I'll have to leave for work a little early one day and go.
If I have to buy a case, for whatever reason, how long do they keep?
I just found this, by the way. I didn't check shipping, but its $5.99 for 4. http://grocerythai.com/catalog/index.php/cPath/33?osCsid=de90d6a5937a37f8b5205f5892e70022

Whole Foods has them. There are a little over $2.00.
If you ask, they sometimes will order you a case.
Also, Asian Markets have them, or will order them for you.

She doesn't say, but maybe they are organic? I know there was a site selling fresh flown to the USA thai coconuts that were not processed or chemically treated. Most likely though she's just selling regular ones.
Did you read the comments.. how funny!

If they were organic or had any other plus in their favour you can be sure that it would say so. I think that it is a site for people with more money than sense.

LOL at that fantastic price, I am sure they are very fresh because they must do such high volumes. :o
RFMom, next trip to Toronto, stop by Scarborough, there's a fantastic huge Thai asian market there that has them. It's close to 401, somewhere on Lawrence, I'd have to ask the hubby. It's huge, and has completely mind blowing produce section. Cheep! Though not much in organics there (although they did have a few items, organic pea shoots and I can't remember what else), but some really fabulous fruits I've never seen anywhere else.
I buy them also at Whole Foods in Yorkville, theirs aren't organic either, the price was fairly normal, not outrageous or anything.
Asking your local supermarket produce person to get you a case is also generally a good idea, but I suggested that to you before so I'm guessing it wasn't feasible.

Spectatrix, our Asian market downtown doesn't carry them, but I didn't ask him at the time if he could order them in for me, he just told me "only in Toronto", which is 2.5 hours away, so he didn't seem interested in sales, LOL. But if the Asian markets are normally cheaper I will try there first and see if he'll order some, couldn't hurt. I already tried the big produce store in town, and they never got back to me about this.
exurb, if you could find out the name of that store for me that would be awesome. I have family in Georgetown and Guelph, west of Toronto, so every so often we have to go through Toronto to get to them, so a store off Hwy 401 would be perfect! Thanks. :)
Regardless, I just don't see paying $9.00 each PLUS shipping... LOL! :D

In Toronto check out the areas of Spadina near Dundas I think. There are lots of asian grocers there with cheap Thai coconuts (about $1.50 last year). You'll know you're in the right place when you start seeing hudnreds (literally) of coconuts piled on garbage pails (they don't fit into the new style Toronto rolled out a few years ago).
There's also a tropical fruit shop there called K&K which has many varities of jackfruit, durian, mangosteen and more all year round. It's a fabulous resource. You're lucky to live there.
All my family are in Toronto... I'm back for a wedding in August. Love to meet up with raw people there when we're back.
Cheers,
Sheryl

My God! I'd be rich! There are tons of them growing around here! They only sell for about 1 - 2 bucks a pop in the supermarkets.

Wow, you guys are so lucky to live in areas where young coconuts are so readily available and inexpensive.
The GOOD NEWS is that I talked to the produce manager of the big (and more expensive) grocery store near me, and he's really cool. :) He is ordering me a case of coconuts and I'll have them on SUNDAY!!!! YES!!!! I can't wait to get them!! I have to take a picture of my first young coconut, LOL. I'm so excited about this! He said they're normally $2.99 each but since I'm getting a case he's going to give me a better deal. Either way, it's a whole lot better then $9.00 each on Amazon plus shipping... LOL! I'm so happy to have found a source of coconuts.
