View Full Version : Headaches from raw chocolate?!

I've been getting terrible headaches every afternoon for the last couple of weeks. I have been 100% raw since May 1 and off caffeine for 7 months. I have tried to identify what the cause might be and I think I have it - today, I got the start of that same headache right after I finished my almost-daily raw chocolate and hemp protein smoothie. Could it be that I have a sensitivity to raw chocolate? That would be a bummer... Anyone with similar problems? Or advice?

I think it could be very likely, if you are noticing symptoms, then there is usually something there.
why not try a couple of days without the raw cocoa, and then try it again, and see what happens.
whether you make the decision to keep eating it or not, at least, you will be able to make a decision based on your experience instead of just guessing.

Paul Nison, Frederic Patenaude and Dr. Douglas Graham have spoken out against raw cacao, see this link (http://www.welikeitraw.com/rawfood/2006/06/paul_nisons_raw.html) and this one (http://superbeingsystem.blogspot.com/2005/12/is-raw-chocolate-healthy-or-even-raw.html). But some people still enjoy it without ill effects. Do what makes you feel good!

Wow, Margi, thank you. These articles really make me want to re-think my raw chocolate habit. I've been putting several tablespoons into protein smoothies I eat almost every day. I've been following David Wolfe's ideas here (see Wolfe's book _ Naked Chocolate_) but now I'm not sure I even want to eat it. I appreciate the info!
