View Full Version : Freezing Avocado...anyone tried it?
I was thinking how convenient it would be to cube or blend some avocado and freeze it so I would easily have it when I wanted to make my avocado dressing. Anyone ever tried to freeze avocado?? If so, what were the results?

No I have never done it. I have never had a avocado last me that long, lol! I love to eat them too much.

I've never tried it, but avocado *should* freeze fairly well. I don't think it's necessary, though... I keep mine in the fridge and they can stay good for weeks.

I freeze Avocados all the time. I cut them in halves, take the seed out, coat in some citrus juice and pop in a bag to freeze. Works great! We get a glut in SoCal and I like to take advantage of the crop while it runneth over and is affordable. Thawing is as easy as letting the bag thaw on a plate on the counter. The texture doesn't change and the flavour is great. I've never tried to cube them but I don't see why it wouldn't work...go for it and let us know what happens...

As I mentioned on the thread about the chocolate pudding/pie made with avocadoes, I actually like it best frozen. The avocadoes are of course processed smooth with the other ingredients, but it is an easy-to-slice pie even when frozen, probably because of the oil in the avocadoes.
So I would suggest to use at least some of them to make that pie and you will have an instant frozen dessert. Great for summer.
I also thought it would make great fudge-sicles. It has that texture/consistency.

So you can store avocado in the fridge for a few days in a tupperware container? I don't mind if it gets a little brown....thanks for any help!

I'm assuming you mean a cut avocado, like a half left over. Leave the pit in the half and coat it with a bit of lemon juice. The pit (for some reason) and lemon keep it from getting brown very quickly.
Thanks guys! I just like to use avocado for dressings, but I hate having to get the food processor out every day. I figure I could make a ton of dressing ahead of time then freeze it in containers.
