Is it possible to move to NY, get settled and find a job (maybe waitressing or something) on $3000???

Brooklyn or Queens. The schools I am applying to are in Queens and Lower Manhattan. But I'm not going to apply til fall 2008. The 3000 would be for rent and whatever other expenses are involved in getting started in NY. I don't know what it takes to get set up. But I would have 3000 to live on while I am getting a job, and I am assuming that once I find a job I could afford the NY living expenses. I've seen rent on a single room for around 650. That's the kind of rent I'm hoping to pay. That's one reason I want in Brooklyn or Queens, better rent prices.
Do people move to NY on less than that?

Inthe City, Manhattan it will not go far at all. You would need to get a job asap and go with a place to stay. Rent and Hotels are steep, 3000 month for Rent is below average unless you share. Now come to a place like upstate NY or central NY and you could get by for a month or so ....

We're moving up to NY hopefully soon since my dad works there now and hotels in NJ are expensive now! But finding a house/apartment/condo is hard and the prices are way too much for us! Good luck with the job and living hunt!

You may be moving there? Awesome! I just love going to the Farmers Markets and am dying to try a raw food restaurant. I forgot my list of addresses last time I was there. I may go ahead and apply to schools for Fall 07, instead of just living there for a year. I want to go to CUNY Queens Law, because supposedly it's a good school for women and the tuition is great. So maybe I can afford an occasional trip to Bonobo's or something.
