Funny, I love the word "popped" when describing putting the food in the dehydrator. It just sounds delicicious, and brings to mind fancy pastries...
Anyways. I have been sprouting rye berries since wednesday, so they were ready to be prepared into bread. I used Alissa's rye bagel recipe, but shaped the dough into 1/2" thick flat bread rounds. Kind of like a small thick pita. THe dough tasted great raw. I made one substitution: I had run out of onion so I used a bit of garlic instead. The caraway smells great.
I am figuring they will take a long time to "bake" in there, and that is something she says in the book. Has anyone made this recipe, and if so, how long did you end up leaving them in the dryer? I plan to slice them open to use as sandwhich bread....Seeing how well the onion bread went over for T (My hubby) I was thinking that this might be even better for him. He keeps asking for heavier raw dishes. This one seemed perfect. I plan a tomato, avocado, cucumber and lettuce sandwhich...
I grew up eating rye bread, so it brings back fond memories...Back when I first was drying my flat bread in the sundryer I used to put caraway in it too. Only now I actually have the rye berries, which lend a nicer flavor I think. Does anyone know if rye has less of an affect on IBS than wheat? I am not celiac, so I can digest the wheat protein, only it causes irritation if I eat to much. jUst curious.
