The birthday party is over and I got a Nesco/American Harvest dehydrator with a set of extra trays. :D Now I don't know what to make first. I think it comes with only one sheet for making fruit leather. And I am low on groceries at the moment and have to go out tomorrow anyway so I can buy whatever I might need to make something. I don't happen to need any flax crackers at the moment because I just bought some at the health food store. And I am going to order some more fruit leather sheets and perhaps a few more accessories. Any ideas for something that would be good for a first attempt at dehydrating? My daughter wants some raisins. So I think we'll try those. Any other ideas? All this time I keep wishing I had the dehydrator so I could make all sorts of stuff in it, but now that I have it I haven't a clue what to make.

Oh and as for my birthday cake... My mom wound up getting three different cakes! One large one, two small ones and some sort of 100 calorie packs of some Nabisco product. Plus the gluten free brownie I brought for my daughter. I saw a lot of cake being cut and plated and stabbed with forks, but very little cake eaten. And then nobody wanted the leftovers, so my husband took them home. That was really kind of strange. I kind of think everyone would have been fine with it had there been no cake at all. But what do I know?

Oh congratulations on your birthday, and what a wonderful present.

Oh, the enchiladas are wonderful, the pizza, the calzones, the pesto stuffed mushrooms (one of my favorites) the pizza wraps, the onion bread (on this site) every thing else is in Alissa's book.

just play, and have fun, and make good raw stuff, you're gonna be an expert in no time.

What a wonderful present, you are so lucky.

Thanks! I'm not a mushroom fan, but I will try the other thing. I think I might try raisins first thing. My daughter wants some and it would be good to get something I can't screw up right away.

I use my dehydrators all the time, and have only made raisins a couple of times.

we grow our own grapes, so it is not expensive.

but each grape has a different taste.

This is true. Grapes are not something we grow here, but I have to go to the store tomorrow anyway so I could buy some.

it will be so much fun for you and your children to make stuff together, my son used to love to cook with me, and my granddauters all love to un-cook with me.

It's so much fun teaching little ones.

I'm sure your grapes will be wonderful.
