Hello there!
Here's a good stumper for you...please help!
My friend's husband is trying to incorporate more anti-inflammatory foods into his diet and reduce inflammatory ones...he has degenerative disk disease along with arthritis.
I suggested that they consume plenty of Omega fatty acids.
He loves LOVES spicy food, esp cayenne peppers...he has read about avoiding nightshade family...which is unfortunate as he loves tomatoes.
Here's where it gets tricky. Cayenne peppers are a nightshade plant, yet they also have high amounts of capascin (sp?) in them which help to fight inflammation...which is the correct information? Can a plant have both beneficial properties like that and also cause inflammation?
Thanks!
Heather

Well, I don't know if anything will stop the conflicting news. Check out Richard Shulze ~ herbdoc.com I think it is. Or just google his name. When we first met, he was known as Professor Cayenne.

Heather, I think pineapple is supposed to be an excellent antiinflamatory.
I'm weaker on the knowledge of eating nightshades and much that I read is conflicting too, and very individual in terms of whom avoiding them helps. However, on topical use of cayenne, the scientific results are strongly in favour, and I am more certain in my knowledge of this aspect. The cayenne when put on nerve endings themselves can be very anaesthetic. There are scientific trials that show that capsaicin cream is actually very effective for people with chronic pain, etc. If he is in chronic pain in the area of that disk, it has been shown that applying capsaicin on the area topically is actually quite beneficial. Sufferers of that type of pain in addition to the numbing and endorphins, etc., also experience relief because it almost distracts the nerve endings and gives themselves something else to fire other than the same constant chronic pain messages. So I totally recommend doing that, even though it might seem like a minor thing to rub cayenne cream over an area that has deep joint or myofascial pain. These creams are available in the drugstore, or you can just make one if you're brave. I have seen top physiatrists (physical medicine specialists) strongly recommend these creams as some relief to people with complicated cases for whom there are few things that actually help.

Cayenne pepper (especially those powders & tinctures that are blended with Habanero pepper) is one of the THE most vital and effective healing herbs we've been given!
Here's a group of links that will explain ALL of it's miraculous healing attributes!
This first one is probably the most important, as it covers appropriate dosages and various types for use (as well as all kinds of great information)...make sure you click the link at the bottom of the page to take you to Part II! :

Your advice on the Omega 3 fat was great! For a TOTAL healing, your friend needs to get his pH more alkaline as soon as possible, increase the flow of healing blood throughout his system (cayenne) and get the blood completely nourished and full of healing power (some type of green/Superfood). One of the best/fastest ways to increase alkalinity is Miracle II Neutralizer fluid (and it's odorless, tasteless, can be taken internally, bathed in, used for household/cosmetic/healing purposes...especially detoxing -and all kinds of good things!) Many people that take a bath with a bit of the Miracle II soap & neutralizer have IMMEDIATE pain relief...as well as a bathtub full of dark, black water from the toxins that come out of their skin). You can learn all about the science of all the Miracle II products (which I HIGHLY recommend) here: http://www.thepowermall.com/miracle2/scientific_data.htm
Make sure you check out the testimonials pages while you're there!
The scientific data can be a bit tough to understand, but basically it works because: it "makes water wetter" and by doing that, hydrates the body adequately, which increases the flow of electrical energy and ciruculation throughout the body. It's also an incredible alkalinizer. These two things alone have produced millions of cures and cessation from symptoms from just taking a few drops/teaspoon or two daily and taking regular baths in it.
You should see what it does for all kinds of plants and in the garden. It really IS a miracle!
'Hope this all helps you some.
