View Full Version : Trouble Sleeping, and a Weird Night - Detox??

I've been 100 percent raw for six weeks, and I'm just starting to feel an increase in my energy. But, along with this, I'm also having trouble sleeping - I lay in bed and I'm not tired, my mind is going on about nothing in particular until 4am! I've gotten about 3 hours of sleep the past 3 nights, and I'm not waking up tired.

Last night I finally got to sleep and woke up an hour later. I had had a dream that I went to a convention and, while I was figuring out where to check in, some kind ladies suggested that I leave my toddler with them for an hour or so, so I did. And I spent the dream trying to find the place to check in, and worrying because I wasn't really sure where my daughter was (I've never left her before, especially not with strangers). I did find her at the end, and she'd had a great time with the ladies, but the dream left me disturbed and I had a heavy feeling in my head, and my brain seemed to be ringing. I also had the sensation that, if I went back to sleep, I might not wake up. It was just weird.

I got up and drank a glass of water (maybe the ringing was dehydration?) and ate a banana and a dozen almonds (maybe my body was hungry? I did eat lighter than usual yesterday) The whole thing was so unsettling that I left the light on when I went back to bed. The water and food seemed to help, and I did go back to sleep and I feel mostly okay this morning, although I still have a faint buzzing in my ears and I feel a little foggy. And I gained two pounds overnight!

So, what is this? Detox? Dehydration? Some lacking trace mineral??

I went through the exact same thing when transitioning to all raw. Restless nights, weird dreams, trying water, trying a banana and almond butter. Nothing helped. I finally decided just to wait it out and all of a sudden, about a month later, I'm sleeping really well. I would wake up not tired but kind of foggy throughout the day.

I believe that I have so much more energy eating raw that I just don't need so much sleep. So, I go to bed a little later now (around midnight instead of 10pm) and I also started running to use up some of this energy. Yoga and taking care of the twins just isn't cardio enough for me. I played around with lots of supplements but nothing really got me sleeping. Not even melatoning.

So, all I can say is really pay attention to see what your body is asking for. And don't stress over it...that'll make it harder to sleep. Good luck.

Thanks, Debbie - at least this isn't unheard of!
