I am giving up cooked chick peas and trying to sprout but they taste starchchy no like the cooked one.
Is there a way to prepare them to make them taste less starchy?
Thanks for the help.

Ann :)

I don't eat chickpeas but I do know of a really yummy hummus recipe that I just made the other day.

Lemon & Herb Hummus (http://www.therawtable.com/recipecoll/hummus.htm)

Hi,

I have a raw food prep book that recommends chopping your chic pea sprouts in your food processor and then marinating them overnight in the fridge in olive oil and lemon juice before blending them into hummus.

I've tried it and it worked well for me...

:D I'll sprout tonight. I love chick peas and miss them so much. How long do you sprout them?
Thanks.

I make hummus with zucchini. Some people don't like the smoother texture but I think it's delicious!

I am so glad you posted this! My fiance and I used to live on cooked hummus. I have made two different raw recipes, and we threw them both out. I am going to try marinating overnight in olive oil and lemon to see if that helps!

i had to give it up and wanted a substitute that reminded me of it.
I'm so glad to have friends that don't mind sharing their recipes.
It makes being raw much easier for us all.

Try letting them sprout a little longer. I was upset at the starchiness of mine but I kept letting them sprout and then one day they finally tasted good!

Can't help you with the hummus though. My one and only attempt was horrible. I think it was Juliano's recipe. Called for far too much parsley for my taste. The stuff came out green.

I also found that I prefer sprouted lentils to the chickpeas, or even a mix of beans and lentils with a few chickpeas and some other things. I usually just eat it out of hand or on top of a salad instead of trying to make the sprouts into something.

blessed, if you do a "banana" and search for hummus there have been really good long threads about it.

Basically, IMO if you want anything that is close to SAD hummus, or something that would please the palate of the average person, you have to throw out the sprouted garbanzos and use something else as the base.

I have heard that chick peas are poisonous when they are raw so you should blanch them for some minutes..

Are you sure madde88??

I am going to make hummus with raw, soaked, sprouted ones.

I don't think they are poisonous...I have read several places that red kidney beans will make you sick if you eat them raw, but there are so many raw recipes using garbanzos I find it hard to believe they are inedible in their sprouted state.

I do remember the starchiness when I first sprouted them. I kept tasting them and they tasted terrible. Then one day they tasted good! I could eat them like popcorn. But I couldn't eat them in hummus. At least not the recipe I tried. It had waaaay too much parsley in it for my tastes and the finished result was chalky and lumpy.

The hummus I made the other day with sprouted chick peas just wasn't right, I don't think you can use sprouted chick peas as a replacement for cooked ones if you want it to taste the same. I think I will try the zuccini recipe next time, see if it works any better.

I really do NOT enjoy Garbanzos raw so, I made up a Macadaimia Nut Hummus and if I do say so, it ROCKS!!

Soak the nuts for like 20 min, then chop in food processor, 1/2 lb. should do. Then add your RAW Tahini as much as you like, lots of lemon, use the zest as well, add salt and pepper, olive oil and garlic to taste. Mix until smooth and consume:) You may add cumin and corriander if you choose, mint works too.

Good eatz:)

Harvesting the chickpeas as soon as the sprout appears works for some people.

I love hummus, but have not managed to make a raw version that i have been happy with purely out of chick peas. It comes out too starchy, earthy or bitter for my liking.

I sprout chick peas most days alongside other sprouts for use in salads.

I recently bought a raw salad combination sprout mix.
I noticed that the dried chick peas were smaller than the ones i usually buy and they were sweeter and more tender once sprouted.

Trying a different brand or supplier may help.
