OK, so I started this thread because I want to eat a lot more bananas each day, about 5 or more a day. My only problem is I can't think of too many ways to simply eat bananas without it being a pie, etc. which I don't want to make. So far the only idea i have come up with is to chop up banana in a bowl, add a little almond milk, agave and cinnamon. simple and good. Anyone have any more ideas? If anyone can help me, it's you guys1 :D Thanks!

You can freeze some and make banana walnut ice cream.

Banana w/ raw almond butter

Green smoothie w/ banana

Banana chips (dehydrated)

Banana by itself :p <--- my favorite way, besides eating banana walnut ice cream that is ;)

Hey heabrook! Those are good ideas. Thank you! Ya know, it's funny-i really can't just eat a banana by itself. Maybe its too boring for me, because I've tried and i really don't like it unless they are younger and more starchy which i know isn't good for ya. I do make green smoothies with one banana and usually something else, but they are so filling because of the almond milk i put with them.

Hey i can try that mango and banana pudding!

One of my staple snacks/meals used to be a banana with almond butter spread on it and then sprinkled with dried coconut and sometimes a few raisins on top. I used to call it my "candy bar".

I'm not sure if banana ice cream and/or shakes falls under the "pies, etc." category, but that's another way I "eat" them.

If you make/eat grawnola, that's good with banana cut up in it and nut milk poured over it (or perhaps just bananas sliced up in a bowl with grawnola broken up on top and NO nut milk)

Banana shakes with 4-5 bananas and 1 c water. This is my post-workout breakfast staple!

Green smoothies: 4\-5 bananas and 4-5 leaves of romaine lettuce

chocolate banana pudding: 2 bananas and 2 tbsp raw carob powder

I eat like 5-7 bananas a day.

I start by making a smoothie in the morning with a banana, strawberries, spinach and other stuff. I usually eat a banana with my smoothie :p

Also, my favorite for lunch is 4 overripe, cold bananas. the greatest ever. It is so good, I dont want to eat anything else.

I've also made ice cream. I just put frozen bananas with pecans, cinnamon, and agave for "butter pecan Ice cream" or frozen bananas and strawberries and agave for a really tasty treat!

Other than that you could :

eat bananas with nut butters
dehydrate banana chips and snack on those
make a fruit salad with a couple fruits including bananas

or eat them plain :)

I like taking banana's and either apples or pears diced up, sprinkle some chopped almonds on top and drizzle honey over it. Very good. Alissa's spicy monkey bread in her cookbook is very good also. Papaya-banana pudding is also good. That is going to be dinner tonight. Yum :p

I love bananas cut up, with a spread of cashew butter on each slice. So good and filling!

I also love banana and mango smoothies with almond milk.

My recipes aren't that different, but I'll post them anyway.

Slice up a banana, lay it out on a plate so it looks pretty- I always enjoy food more when it looks pretty. Take a cup or bowl, and mix coconut flakes, sliced almonds, cinnamon, and cacao nibs together- sprinkle liberally over bananas, cover with agave nectar-or honey. I've also done this with banana and blueberries instead of the cacao nibs-very good, and much lighter.

You can also blend bananas with a bit of lemon and agave nectar- some mature coconut milk wouldn't hurt either- creating a "custard like goo" to put on top of other fresh fruit.

I like bananas whole and plain best or in green smoothies/banana ice cream type thing. but mostly plain.

But...besides all the great sounding recipes already suggested you could make:
*banana flax crackers
*banana milk or milkshake
*banana bread cookies or other cookie/cake/bread made with banana
*you could make some sort of banana spread

MaddMelon: you made: " blend bananas with a bit of lemon and agave nectar- some mature coconut milk wouldn't hurt either- creating a "custard like goo"

I just ran out and made some. Used 2 bananas and mine was like a smoothie. Do you cool yours and it thickens to a 'custard" ? Do you use more bananas to get it thicker? It's delicious though, Joz

slice banana in a bowl, add carob powder, mash with fork.

For a creamier version you can use a food processor and add an advocado, perhaps some agave to taste.

I don't really have any new ideas that haven't already been posted, but my favorite ways to eat bananas include...

banana ice cream with all variations including adding berries, or cocoa/carob, nuts, coconut

smoothies-all my smoothies include at least 1 banana

dried bananas-love these straight from the dehydrator and also great spread with almond butter and any other toppings you might like

Alissa's banana/flax crackers-these are great topped with almond butter and agave

One way I really like to eat bananas is to make waldorf salad with bananas, raisins, pecans, and apples - it is so yummy! Also, I like to make a fruit mix like bananas, blueberries, strawberries and raw honey mixed in, this is really great too..hope that helps :)

all the above are wonderful but one of my absolute FAVORITE recipes with bananas, is from Shazzie's book. . .
1 avocado
1 banana
1 clove of garlic
blended all together in a food processor and spread on anything, or just eat with a spoon (as I do, with my bare feet in the grass and a grin on my face!)

WOW! Thank you so much everyone, lots of great ideas! I knew you guys would help :D

Angelic, that waldorf salad seems really tasty right about now!

blacktulip - Is the flavor of that recipe savory or sweet or both? I never would have thought of making that recipe.

blacktulip - Is the flavor of that recipe savory or sweet or both? I never would have thought of making that recipe.

it's delightfully sweet (but not in the too sweet way that hurts your teeth) and creamy with just enough garlic to add a savory flavor.
the combination is perfect. :)

JustMe I am glad that you liked the recipe -it is one of my favorites because it is sweet but with the pecans it has that saltiness also..you could get in 2 bananas maybe with just the waldorf salad. When I check out at the grocery store the cashier always asks what type of diet I am on because I buy like 8-10 bunches of bananas, I eat alot of them also. I also like the banana ice cream - have you tried it yet? :)

JustMe
06-27-2006, 11:12 AM
blacktulip- i'll have to give it a go, what do you recommend spreading or dipping it with?

Angelic - I will probably be getting that comment here in the near future LOL I had forgotten about ice cream. The last time i had it, i think i froze the bananas when they were not ripe enough because it sort of tasted starchy, but not too long ago I froze some nanners that were really spotted and when I made it into ice cream, it tasted so much better. Amazing how it's a soft serve huh?! I couldn't believe it the first time i tried it. so simple, yet soooo yummy!

Thank you again everyone for the wonderful ideas :)

I eat about 10 bananas a day, in various ways.

Green smoothies - 200g kale, 4 bananas, water = 4 glasses
Avocado pudding - 1/2 avocado, 2 bananas, 150g blueberries (or strawberries or apricots)
Mango blend - 1 banana with 1 mango
Fruit smoothies - fruit with 1 banana
Bananas eaten in the same moutful as brazil nuts which tastes like banana sandwiches

When I was little my friends family always had for desert -
chopped banana with crumbled up digestive biscuits with hot custard, all mixed together.
Raw version = chopped banana with roughly ground brazils with a custardy sauce. (nuts, dates, lemon juice etc)

dash of vanilla
dash of salt

Banana-Pecan Dessert

(mix up in bowl and eat, I know, complicated isn't it?)

*I heart banana recipes with cinnamon* :)

I just discovered this yesterday and it is going to be my breakfast staple most days :)

1 banana
1 cup almond milk
some vanilla extract or cut up vanilla bean into little pieces
agave or honey (I use agave) about a Tablespoon maybe a little more - depends on how sweet you want it

Put all ingredients in a blender and mix - it makes a wonderful thick drink that is filling and deliciouse. I made it tonight for dessert with a little cocoa and that was GOOD too.

I also like to make banana leather and then cut them into small pieces, about 2" by 2" and place 1 tsp of almond butter on top, top with another 2" by 2" piece, seal the edges with water or orange juice, and you have a peanut butter taffey, very delicious, you can fill with almond butter and a raspberry if you like too, very yummy
