Hi :)

Do many people here eat vegetables like brocolli and cauliflower in it's whole state? By this I mean WITHOUT food processing or blending it with other ingredients to hide it's flavour, but just eating florets off it and chewing them? This is something I would like to do as surely this is how we were supposed to eat these things (unaltered) but then I just think about it being chewy and crunchy and not appetising at all. Does anyone here munch through a cauliflower and brocolli alone and say that it isn't too bad? I'm looking for positive comments on this one!!

Thanks

I LOVE Cauliflower raw and whole, but brocolli is a different story. Usually I have to blend it or put some kind of raw dressing on it.

I use them both i salads and with tahini (or raw hummus) dip. I usually put the cauliflower upside down in a bowl of salted filtered water first, o get rid of any "guests".

We love cauliflower and brocolli raw as well. I have eaten it plain and with a dip. While I have eaten a large amount of it at times, it usually ends up as kind of a side relish rather than a main part of the meal.

We eat cauliflower and broccoli with dip. Though I do sometimes eat it by itself also, I just like dipping stuff. ;)

Fresh-picked, unsprayed raw broccoli from the farmers market cannot be beat. It is so good by itself or dipped in something. I also like cauliflower raw. I love the texture of these 2 veggies, although I know it is not for everyone.

Here's a yummy cauliflower recipe. It has lots of unique tastes combined and is great on a hot day. I got it from a friend who learned it from her mother-in-law while living in Greece. This sure doesn't taste like dirt! :)

Greek cauliflower salad
1 head cauliflower, cut into florets
3 granny smith apples, peeled and diced
2 tablespoons FRESH dill (approx.), chopped - use fresh dill for this salad!!
juice of 2 lemons (approx.)
2 tablespoons olive oil (approx.)
Sea salt and fresh cracked black pepper to taste

Combine all ingredients in a big bowl and mix well.
Chill in refrigerator for a few hours or overnight to let flavors marry.
Enjoy!

Glad to see many of you like your brocolli and cauliflowers in its whole state.. gives me encauragement to try it out. The thought of eating unorganic brocolli or cauliflower well.. isn;t worth thinking about.. it just sounds disgusting, so definately organic for these 2.

Broccoli was my favorite veggie growing up and I preferred it raw. I've always been a fan of relish trays that have fresh broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots. Are you buying organic broccoli? Conventionally grown broccoli is very bitter.

I have juiced unorganic brocolli and it tastes horrible and you can really taste the chemicals on it more then other fruit veg. Same goes for unorganic cauliflower juiced.

Oh... one last thing. How is brocolli and cauliflower eaten whole in terms of digestion? Easy to digest.. hard? It can't be as hard on digestion as nuts, surely? I know juicing is the fastest (maybe best) way to absorb things blah blah but I want to try now eating things how they were intended to be eaten, plus it saves a lot of washing up :) . So is caluiflower and brocolli whole still easy on digestion?

Thanks!

Raw broccoli, I´ve read somewhere, sort of acts like a broom in your colon, bringing stuff out. Some find that cauliflower causes some gas, but I´ve not had that experience.

I've always eaten broccli and cauliflower raw. I never liked it cooked. I just eat it plain :)

I've never liked cauliflower cooked, I love it raw, just all by itself, but with a thousand island dressing that I make, it is totally awsome.

I also love brocolli by itself, but it is also excellnet with a lemon tahini dressing too.

mmmmmmmm I also love cabbage with ginger orange dressing.

I love eating veggies raw... brocolli, cauliflower, pole beans, cabbage... many more I just can't think of at this time.. That lemon tahini dressing sure sounds good.. I'll have to find that recipe and give it a try..
