Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone had experience with a child who has autism and transitioning him/her to a raw food diet? I have been raw since June 1 (thanks to Alissa's June class!) and have a child with autism. Once I get the raw thing down for me a bit more, I want to increase his intake of raw. He's having a tough time with the textures, and I've been moving V E R Y slowly.

Best,

Anne

My brother in law is autistic and his parents have tried everything BUT putting him on raw to stop it. However, they have tried other things that helped such as: eliminating dairy and gluten and we have all noticed that when he eats more fruits and raw veggies he is more "normal" for lack of a better word at the moment. I have heard that raw diets can cure autism after a while but I'm afraid to mention it to my parents in law because even though we're close I don't want to make it sound like I'm trying to interfere when they've tried everything in their minds to make it work. I hate that they dose him up on drugs all day to control it when they could try raw but it is not my place and parents can get very sensitive when it comes to how they raise their children. Anyway, good luck. Even if raw doesn't totally cure him, it will make him healthier if nothing else.

Hi Anne,

Here are some things I found.

These are the great results that Allison had with her ausistic son.

There are some other threads on autism. If you go up to the banana at the top of the page, you can type autism in to search and it will bring up threads that have mentioned autism.

Good luck with Patrick. I know for autistic kids the texture of food is many times more important than the taste so it makes it really hard to find something they will accept. I hope things went well with his doctor appointment and I hope everything is going well with you.
