Hi Mookie,
I have done 80/10/10 in the past and am always striving to get back thereas I always felt me best when eating that way. When I do have a 80/10/10 day, this is what it would look like:
A whole cantaloupe
Large Smoothie
Salad (greenleaf lettuce with raw almond slices)
Snack(s): oranges, or apples, or bananas
Another day would be:
Large bowl of watermelon
Large Smoothie
Avocado wraps (mashed avocados spread on greenleaf lettuc leaves and rolled up)
Snack(s) same as above, maybe some peaches, or a mango, etc.

I have been doing 80/10/10 since I first went raw in Feb. '06. I feel amazing (I might add!) I usually eat mono because it is better for digestion and feels great.
Typically my meals look like this: Usually I eat a few bananas for breakfast and a whole lot more bananas for lunch. Then for dinner I eat a salad without dressing. In the salad I usually I have mixed greens, cucumbers, summer squash, tomatoes and peppers.

Hi!
I eat a low fat/high fruit diet.
Yesterday I ate:
about a lb of grapes
about seven of those little yellow mangoes
3 bananas
A salad with romaine lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers with OJ as a dressing. On days that I eat more fat I love to blend OJ and an avocado for a dressing.
Today so far I've eaten:
a pint of strawberries
I will have a honeydew melon (maybe two depending on how hungry I am) for lunch
probably a couple (or more) bananas as a snack
for dinner I'll probably have a salad with icerberg lettuce, tomatoes, cukes and OJ as a dressing.
A low fat dressing that I really love is the juice of 3 or 4 oranges, a tomato and about 8-10 dates blended up. It is really sweet and yummy.
A favorite low fat soup of mine is: About 5 medium to large tomatoes, the juice of one or two limes, about half a red or yellow bell pepper, two stalks of celery and about 10 dates blended up. It is delicious!

basically you can eat as many raw fruits or veggies of your choosing when following 8/1/1 - just whatever you like. that is basically what i do. you can go to my journal here at RFT or at www.ethicalcentral.com/main to get an idea of what i eat daily :)

I don't do it on purpose, that is just what ends up happening when I eat whatever, plus I feel better this way.
I eat a TON so I won't bore you with a daily menu sample. I do eat some fats sometimes, I feel good with like a tablespoon of raw hempseed, for example....Most days my diet is more 8% protein and fat, this might not be good but I'll have to see.
I would suggest not purposely forcing yourself to do any one diet, but that is just my suggestion. Eat what you feel like (raw :)) and soon your body will tell you what it wants...when you are conciously trying to eat a certain way it can sort of block your body's signals from your mind.
have fun :)

I noticed you said you eat mono due to better digestion.
I have been experiencing a lot of tummy problems when eating non mono. Such as gas, tummy aches, diarhea and loose stools........frequent trips to bathroom to p*&p!!!!!!
did you experience those types of problems before eating mono?
also explain what your definition of mono eating is. Does that mean for one meal you eat just one type of fruit or veggie or all day just one thing or what?
Thanks

I didn't have any problems with digestion, pain, gas, bloating or cramps before I went mono. I just went mono because Dr. Doug Graham suggests it, and I wanted to try it. I also wanted to get in touch with my 'true hunger' as it is easier to overeat when eating different types of foods at one time. Well, I liked eating mono so much that I very rarely eat non-mono meals (except for my dinner salad, of course). It is supposed to help with the gas and pains that you ask about (so does proper food combining - not eating sweet fruit with fats, etc.) Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions!
mypinkbow:
I had soooooooooo many problems on SAD food which is why I went raw initially. I have bad digestion and a weak stomach I guess, because I've always had a lot of problems. Then I went raw and still felt like crap. So I tried some of the suggestions that Dr. Graham offers, and not only was it alot easier for me and I really enjoy it but it was also alot easier on my body. NO more stomach problems, tons of energy, and I just feel great overall. A typical day is a smoothie and 1-2 bananas for breakfast. Then 4-5 bananas for lunch and maybe another smoothie, then possibly a couple apples or grapes as a snack. Then maybe fruit or a salad for dinner. Simple. No dehydrating no soaking, simply grab, wash and go :)
caution:
with high fruits be careful not to combine foods.
In my smoothies I combine bananas and strawberries and thats ok. but mixing watermelon with oranges kills the tummy :o
so basically try to eat mono or combine properly

I am not doing it and I am. I am not, because I do not choose to follow any regime. I am, because I love fruit, I tend to eat fruit all day and denser foods in the evening, with not too much fat, and as a result, I am. Yesterday, I ate (lots of) mandarines, a few persimmons, several apples and two young coconuts. :)
Best,

Could you guys list some examples of bad food combinging because Ive been having some problems with acid and frequent bathroom trips. I can tell by your posts that its most likely bad food combining. Also coudl you be so kind as to explain this mono thing to me with more detail? Im very interested seeing how I eat 80-10-10.

I gravitate towards that naturally, but not at the moment...I need to get back to that!

if you go to the search link at the top and type in food combining chart, most likely a lot of threads will come up with sample charts and explanations. As for mono eating, it is pretty much eating a meal of a single fruit/vegetable. For example, I'll eat like 3-4-5 bananas in one sitting for lunch. because i'm not mixing it with oranges for example, it is a mono meal. Mono means single or one, so its eating one thing.
Hope that helped. :)

Hi Codajess,
In my home made smoothies I make just 2 of them.
1) fresh bananas and frozen strawberries
2) frozen mangos, frozen pineapples, frozen papaya & apple juice
When I go to Wild Oats I usually get theri Mango Colada (bananas, mangos, pineapple & coconut/pineapple juice).

I looove 8/1/1... I have pretty much been on it since I started raw, but then I had a fallback and tried the more fat/greens/no fruits and killed myself I felt like. I also mono-meal or otherwise I will make a fruit smoothie or a green smoothie. I recommend this to you so much. Check out Dr. Graham's website. I am planning on attending Health and Fitness week in Sept, so I am SO EXCITED about it. Annnyyywhooo.... this is what my low-fat raw vegan day has looked like
Green Juice in the morning (though I usually don't drink that many juices)
12 bananas for meal one
3 mangoes prior to my salad with tomatoes and other veggies for meal two
(sometimes I'll do a really heavy green green smoothie with sweet fruit)
I have come to eat simple and my body appreciates it. It really helps with digestion and elimination. The only thing I make sure I eat enough of is greens b/c I always eat until I am satistied of fruit (my energy). I eat at LEAST 2 lbs of leafy greens a day. In eating enough fruit and getting in my right amount of calories, I have ABSOLUTELY no cravings and I feel perfectly satisfied and balanced at/while/after every meal. Using nutridiary helped me to track my 10% protien and greens and believe it or not but on 8/1/1 you eat more greens than you do eating the "raw gourmet" way....and people think all we eat is fruit fruit fruit. We do eat a diet of 80% fruit, but it is balanced. Dr. Graham has a lot to say just as any other raw guru... but I respect what he has to say a lot. Ok...I'm done

I love the 80-10-10 because it seems the healthiest and try to follow it like Helen. I find it a bit of a challenge to get to that low of fat, so I just try to stay "low-fat" and eat as much fruit as possible (when eating, not fasting that is - day 25 here of fast).
Cinnamon and I came up with a really good plan though, for those interested in transitioning and aren't able to get their fat intake that low just yet - have a large green smoothie or juice and smoothie in the morning (my husband makes carrot apple juice and I make the smoothies), then a fruit lunch and for dinner have your salad with small amount of fat and if more denseness is desired have some kind of dehydrated thing or a raw dessert.
Quite a few folks on the 80-10-10 do a lot of mono mealing though...makes it easier and simpler if you aren't into a lot of food preparation... example... for breakfast a lot of melon or oranges or berries... lunch bananas or lots of grapes or mangoes and then very large salad for dinner.

80% of your diet are carbs (fruits)
10% of your diet is fat
10% of your diet is protein
This is just a ball park, you may be 84/12/4 or 77/10/13. It will vary each day but you will average out over time to about 80/10/10.
You can enter what you eat into http://www.fitday.com and it will tell you what your percentage is in all 3 areas.

what do you put in your green smoothies?
Vandy
06-21-2006, 09:21 AM
oh it depends, but my favorites are:
banana celery (usually about 9 bananas and a pound of celery)
mango kale (3 mangos and about 6-7 leaves of kale which is about 3/4 of a lb)
mango parsely (3 mangos and 2 heads of parsely)
or banana spinach
mango spinach
~ you can adjust the amounts to whatever feels comfortable to you, but I have worked up to the point to where I can eat enough in two large meals a day (and spend less time eating/preparing) and it gives my system time to digest and eliminate. :)

I put banana or mango or peach with greens-kale, collards, dandellion, lambsquarters, etc.-the greens that I don't use in the salads.
I also put some freshly ground flaxseeds in it, because they help my 2.5 year old son to stay eczema free ans he likes smoothies with flaxseed much more than without.
So my question - how much of flaxseed would be in that 10 percent of fat per day thing? I am medium size(122 pounds, 5'6, so I guess around 2000 calories a day)?

This is correct...I just want to further clarify this though. the 80% carbs is a MINIMUM, while the 10% each for fat and protein are MAXIMUMS, so it can more clearly be said:
At least 80 percent of calories coming from carbs, and at most 10% of calories from fat, and at most 10% of calories from protein.
I've been aiming for that, too. We all have some emotional issues that get in the way.
I mostly eat as much fruit as I want during the day, with a salad or raw soup in the evening.
