Hi,
I am new to this, I am 29 years old and from Georgia, I have been a vegetarian on and off for 7-8 years. I tried 100% raw for 2-3 weeks at the longest, but I would like to try doing it for 30 days, I am currently about 85% raw. I do aerobics 5 times a week for about an hour and I would like to combine the two and see what happens, I would like to lose about 10 pounds. By the way, I have a question, How do I get my picture to show up when I post new messages?

Current weight: 128
Current height: 5-7 to 5-8

Thanks MaddMelon! I finally got my picture on my profile now..that is me and my husband at Callaway. Right now I am probably 85% raw, only because I had made some organic pasta and I want to get rid of it first...I don't have much left so that's good. I made some raw gazpacho today that was really great! It had cucumbers, tomatoes, parsley, onions, bellpeppers, etc in it. I am going to try to add the picture later once i get it downloaded. :)

Thanks Scott! I live in Albany, Georgia about 2 1/2 hours from Athens. I have already incorporated raw foods alot in our lifestyle..like fruits, veggie trays, raw oat cookies, etc. I am hoping that as I make new recipes he can try them and hopefully at least go 50% raw - I know it would be really good for him. He just recently went vegetarian 6 months ago to try it for me and he ended up loving the way it made him feel that he has decided to stay vegetarian permanently! I do have a question, do you know if oats and organic peanut butter are considered raw? :)

Yes you can get raw oat groats and sprout them, lots of places to find truly raw oat groats, but the exact opposite with peanut butter.
Differing opinions on the peanut butter thing. I personally don't eat them, nor any nuts, seeds, grains, just raw organic fruits, vegetables and some sprouts.
There's a wide variation of what people eat here - it's truly amazing. Everyone has to find out what works for them individually and that's just a process we each go thru on this journey. If you haven't already, I highly suggest Miss Cohen's book - it's priceless - but that's up to you.

Thanks Scott..I will have to see if I can get some of those oat groats..once they sprout, what are they like? I have never had them before. I didn't know about the peanut butter, I will stay away from it if it's not raw..I really want to do 30 days of just pure raw food and see what kind of results I get.

Hey I have a question, I have a 2400 model (4 tray) Excalibur and the fan works but the it doesn't heat at all. I emailed Excalibur and they said either it is the fuse or the thermosthat. The problem is I can't even find where the fuse is located to see if it is burnt out or not...does anyone know about this??

I've never had the sprouted oat groats myself either, but I know some people love them. Someone on here will know all about sprouted oat groats. These forums are a wealth of info. Alot of people here have helped me and continue to help me.
I have a 5 tray Excalibur - let me take a look at it, I'll get back to you. I've talked to them at Excalibur and they were quite polite and helpful, so maybe try calling them, if you'd like.

I'll get back to you guys.

Hey, Welcome!

I have family that lives near Albany. If you find any great raw eating places or great markets let me know. I go visit my family every 2 or 3 months and would love to have a place to eat or pick up some great fresh organic produce. I know they spray alot down there so it makes me wonder...if there is much organic produce there or not, LOL, if you know what I mean. My mom brought me a bunch from down there last weekend when she was down visiting. I have corn coming out of my ears (known of it was organic to my knowledge).

Hi Lay-Lay! So you have family in Albany, Georgia that is cool! Maybe we could meet sometime. Right now I get most of my organics from Publix and they just opened a new coop but they are only selling produce right now and you have to order on Saturday and then pick up on certain hours on Mondays and Tuesdays from 1-4 I think..they said that right now they are a little expensive until they get more customers coming in...once that happens their prices will be better. I also get my organics from a place in Thomasville called Sweet Basils it is small but I can normally get apples, onions, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, cabbage, spinach, garlic, things like that, they are very reasonable also. Friday I am going to meet my sister in Thomasville and pick free organic blueberries so at least I won't have to pay for those, plus I can go to Sweet basils. This is my 3rd day doing 100% raw, I have not been perfect, but I am trying really hard. How long have you been raw? :)

Oh how awesome, I have a best friend that lives in Thomasville and the rest of the bunch lives in Pelham and Camilla as I'm sure you are familiar with. I will have to check Sweet Basils out next time I am down. I am from the Northern part of that state. Keep up the great work. Raw is alot of fun!!!

It really is a small world! Yeah I know Pelham and Camilla me and my hubbie drive through there all the time. I love Thomasville, it is such a nice town..I am hoping to be moving there once we are finished remodeling our house and finish school. You should definitely visit Sweet Basil it is a nice shop and their prices are great! Has anyone ever told you that in your picture profile you look like Drew Barrymore? :)

I agree you do look alot like her..let me know how you like Sweet Basils. I am going down Friday I was hoping they would have some pineapples maybe, I have this raw fruit salad me and my hubbie love- you mix pineapple, fresh blueberries and strawberries and let it marinate for a few minutes and as you serve it keep tossing it..it is so yummy!! especially in the summer when it's hot and you want something cold to eat!

Okay, here are the recipes Smiley, enjoy!

Banana ice cream
Blend up 3 frozen bananas, vanilla extract, pinch of salt, I had to add some filtered water because I did mine in my blender, but a food processor is better I think. then once that is blended, add some pecans and chop them up..it is so yummy!

Gazpacho
2 cups tomatoes
1 cup cucumber
1/4 cup olive oil
1/3 cup lemon juice
1/2 tsp. sea salt
1/2 to 1 tsp. jalapeƱo pepper, minced
1 medium garlic clove

Blend. Place in a bowl.
Add:
2 cups tomatoes, chopped
2/3 cup cucumber, chopped
1/2 cup red bell pepper, finely diced
1/4 cup onion, chopped
1/2 cup cilantro or parsley, chopped
All the vegetables should be chopped or diced very fine. Using a food processor works great for this. Mix the chopped vegetables with the ingredients that have been blended. Serve cold on a hot summer day, or any time! You can also garnish with summer flower petals. The Gazpacho is a traditional Spanish dish.

Greetings, I see you already know how to work this board. Everyone is so nice and helpful. Great, your husband became a Vegetarian. I wish you all the success possible in going raw. Since you are 85% already, you are on your way. I flirted on and off for years. Finally I just went cold Smoothie and I have been totally raw since June 3, 06. There is no turning back.........Have you tried Almond Butter? RAW......RAW.........RAW for you.........

Well, the first day or two I was 85% but I am now on Day 14 and have been 100% raw all the way and it feels great! Last night I was tempted to have baked lays that my husband eats and instead I had raw pumpkin seeds, it did the trick! I love this way of eating, my sister is on the 30 day raw with me, maybe I can talk more people into trying it out. :)

Oh how awesome. My husband and I go out to Barry sometimes for walks or hikes. It is sooooo pretty watching all the deers and I love going to the old mill. My mom has a ink and pen she did of it when she was a teenager. She won an art schlorship with it. I also paint and I was just telling my husband recently that I wanted to go out there and paint. There is a setting down one of the exits thats not public that is sooo pretty in the fall. It is all huge Oak trees perfectly lined down the road. I love it after fall when the leaves have fallen off. The trees look so whimsical.

Yeah it is beautiful! And you're talking about our access entrance, it is very beautiful! If you stand on the other end, exiting the school, there is a house there, it's the dean of science and it looks like the trees lead up to the house, it's amazing. If you can, go to the House of Dreams. You can get access by calling 1-800-BERRY-GA and they will give you the number...it's beautiful. Or you can bike/hike up there from the Old Mill. I love the campus! I wish I could draw because I've been inspired to do something. Frost Chapel is also beautiful and swan lake! I miss the campus now!! lol

Lay-Lay
07-01-2006, 01:47 PM
yes, isnt' that the house that Barry's used to live in? I have yet to be at that one inside, but I have walked up to it on foot. Oh I love swan lake. There is so much beauty in that place. I cousin is a photographer and she came up once from South GA and took pics over there, but I have never seen how they came out. I can't imagine taking a bad picture out there. Do you work at all on the farm there? Do you stay on campus?

berrymarymac
07-01-2006, 04:28 PM
It was a present for Martha Berry, the students and staff built it for her, I think for her birthday. It's pretty inside, except the bathroom is creepy lol! Yeah, I live on campus in those castles that you see. Where Remember the Titans was filmed! Also Sweet Home Alabama (the plantation house) was filmed at Oak Hill, which is if you take a right out of Berry, then a left at the light...it's right there. I don't work on the farm lol. My friends do work at the dairy and landscape. Oh and another place to go is Possum Trot. It's down a dirt road, turn at the esquine center and there it is, when you get to Winshape. It was the "birthplace" of the college, built in the 1850s or 60s. Martha Berry wanted to give back to the mountain community of Possum Trot, so she built a small chapel to teach the children at sunday school. Well, if you look in the windows you can still see the writing on the walls of the Bible verses since they couldn't afford Bibles.

I used to be a tour guide, hence why I sound like one! lol

Awesome info, thanks, my hubby and I were in Rome tonight we went to dinner at Applebees (sure is hard to get anything raw, there, but I managed with an altered Santa Fe Salad, LOL) then we went to the movies next store, but they had already closed and the nicer theater up the roads A/C was out and it was way to hot for that mess, LOL.

Oh I can bet, especially since in Rome it's much hotter than other places in the metro!! That's a good Applebee's, and sorry about the movie mishap! It is hard to find good vegan, especially raw good in Rome. We need a Whole Foods badly....I would cry with joy if we did get one!
