I feel like I need to start taking enzymes but I don't want to take pills or powder if I don't have to and I've heard that pineapple is full of enzymes. Is pineapple a good enough source?

ETA: Sorry about the title typo!

why do you feel you need to start taking enzymes?

Do you eat any cooked food.
If your meal is raw you should not need to add enzymes. If you still eat some cooked then try to at least have 50% of that meal raw and eat the raw first.

Pineapple contains the enzyme bromelain. That is just one enzyme though. I take an enzyme supplement because even though I eat all raw, foods begin to lose enzymes as soon as they are picked. Also, most people, including myself, have a digestive system that is not working at peak performance due to bad dietary habits in the past (and I also have Celiac disease).

When I started raw...I also started going to the LHS and the iridologist there told me to use food enzymes for at least three months to give my system the help it needed to run smoothly. After that time...it would do it all on it's own.
This is my suggestion, if you burp after you have eaten...or you have heartburn...you probably need them. I also recommend really chewing your food to aid in digestion. Our tummy's don't have teeth, yet sometimes we send down large enough pieces that they should. :p And my last thought is if you have digestion issues...you really need to stay raw! More so than others. You need all those natural enzymes in the raw foods to aid in your digestion process. Without them...you could be on pills forever.
I followed my LHS advice and stuck with the food enzymes for 3 and 1/2 months. I also started 100% raw and I no longer need the pills to digest my food! ;) Good luck!

why do you feel you need to start taking enzymes?

I feel like my digestion could be better because sometimes I get a little bloated but then, I am still detoxing.

Sport, No, I do not eat or drink any cooked food or beverages. I may not need enzymes then but I just got this weird feeling like I should look into eating more pineapple so I should probably just do that. I don't feel right about putting capsules or anything like that into my body.

Thanks for all your replies!

Papaya is good, too. And fresh stuff, along with the other nutrients they contain, is really IMHO the way to go.

I don't ever have any problems with digestion, but I keep it mostly raw, and have for over a year now. But the call of the pineapple - and they are so reasonable priced now! - is just too much to ignore. I get HUGE sweet pineapples for $2.79 at Costco! We eat one weekly, just putting it into smoothies with fresh coconut and fresh mango.

If I wasn't so stuffed from this mornings great smoothie, I'd drool. :-)

Papaya has papain, (am I spelling that correctly?) and it's another good, helpful enzyme.

Good luck! BTW, I'm with you, no enzyme supplements for me!
