Lots of interesting stuff there, but you'll see the link for "vegetable nutrition facts".

Also when on that page, click on the link "view nutrition facts" in the middle of the page under each individual listing - took me awhile to figure that out.

I think that if you look at what nature intended then it is apparent that she intended us to eat fruit. They have no other purpose than to be eaten and were developed for that reason. It makes sense to me that if we are being asked by nature to eat fruits in order to spread the seeds then she would have made it worth our while. It is meant to be a symbiotic relationship and there has to be something in it for everyone.
Veg is food that a plant has stored to supply itself during the non productive season so that it will come back up again next year. It does not store it specifically for us and therefore has no reason to make it attractive to us or supply it with the nutrients that we need. I do not doubt that there are nutrients in there that are good for us but that is just a coincidence and was not designed that way.
For this reason fruit gets my number 1.

Are you talking about giving up zuccini, cucumber and broccoli etc which you probably know are also fruits? Or just sweet fruits like oranges?
Listen to your body. It knows best. If giving up fruit doesn't work for you, you can always go back.

I went off sweet fruit completely for three months. Toward the end I was going crazy craving sugar, but I do feel that I benefited from being off the sugar. The only bad thing was that I went crazy on nuts and that gave me digestive problems. Then also, a caution to you, I began craving cooked starches when I didn't satisfy my sugar craving with fruit. But if your body needs to fast from sugar, give it what it wants.

We are meant to eat fruit. We are frugivores. I don't think you will feel very well or very satisfied for long without fruit. Maybe you just need to add more greens in addition to the fruit? Check out this article: http://www.rawfood-explained.com/the-human-dietetic-character-part-i/are-we-vegetarians-or-fruitarians.html
Take care!!!

I think we need both, because fruit has tons of water soluble fiber which disolves toxins in our body, but does little to help to get it out of the body quickly. Possibly that's why fruitarians might have bad problems with theit teeth at first-their saliva becomes very acidic as body tries to detox.
Vegies(leaves) have tons of insoluble fiber which cleans out as a broom. As you see both are important!

I do not like most fruit. And by fruit, I mean the things we eat as fruit. Not things that are techically fruit but eaten as vegetables, like tomatoes. I do eat occasional fruit. Right now I am eating strawberries, but really very few. I pick them from the garden and eat them right away, but there are only maybe 2 or 3 edible ones at any given time and they're rather small. We also have apple and pear trees so when those are loaded with fruit, I might eat some of that. I eat grapefruit on occasion and also have lemon and lime juice. That's about the extent of my fruit. Perhaps the occasional blackberry or raspberry. They always sound good but then when I get them I don't really like them.
I've seen three different dieticians. I was pregnant at the time I saw the first one. She insisted that I eat 5 servings of fruit a day or I would be harming the baby. But she couldn't come up with a valid reason for this. I did try to eat the fruit but since I disliked it so much, the whole issue caused me a lot of stress.
The next two told me that fruit was not neccesary, provided I keep close tabs on my diet and made sure to eat the right vegetables so I am not lacking any nutrients. A good general rule for this is to try to eat vegetables of every color each day.
Here's a website that lists the world's healthiest foods. Obviously some would not apply to a vegan diet. But it's a good way to check and see if you are getting proper nutrition.

Nobody knows how much fruit sugar we really need, but we probably eat much more than any wild animal, since wild fruit doesn't have that much as garden varieties.

I love my veggies more then my fruit, but I strictly go by my body. Today was really strange for me because mostly what I wanted today was fruit. Just go with how you feel.

Breakfast is usually pumpkin seeds. Might eat some sprouts if I have those. Or a piece of a flax cracker. I don't usually eat much breakfast at all. Lately I've been skipping lunch most days. But it might be some raw veggies like celery, carrots, peppers, onion, tomatoes, and some sprouts or nuts for protein. Might add a bit of olive oil. Might make these into a salad. Dinner would be a large salad with some or all of the above veggies and whatever other veggies and herbs I get in my produce box or have in my garden. I usually eat mostly romain lettuce but I might add some spinach or mesclun if I have it. I used to eat more mesclun and spinach but I got tired of it.

mmmm, I eat a ton of romaine lettuce, red leaf, bok choy, watercress, spinach, and cabbage. I loooooovvvvveeeeee my greens. I usually eat 3 big bowls of these. I usually add sprouted lentils, chickpeas, kidney beans, black eyed peas, sunnys, or buckys. I usually have a little sea salt, some cilantro, a sprinkle of lime, and either a dressing with a base of olive oil or nuts or I have a avocado with it. I eat celery. I don't like carrots much. I eat alot of seaweed. My favorite fruits are cucumbers (not on salad, just by itself) and watermelon.

ljannise,
I would also go by my body - if you don't want fruit, don't eat it. If you want, have it. There is so much controversy about the fat content, the veggie and fruit content of a raw lifestyle that it sometimes is very confusing, at least for me.
Trust yourself :)
Did I read your bio correctly? 150 lbs lost? WOW! Amazing!
Do you happen to have a journal here? Would love to read your story!
