Hi
I realize I did not introduce myself (thanks to those who answered to my post!).
I woke up one day in March with the idea to give raw food a try. It was mainly for weight lose purposes. I need to loose about 20lb and I DO NOT want under any circumstances to go on any kind of deprivation diet of any sort. Been there, done that way too many times.
I had a fairly clean diet before, I think. No McDo. Lots of fruits and veggies, mosty vegetarian, organic as much as possible. No chips, chocolate bars and the like. Sometimes a piece of cake. dark chocolate only (that I am not giving up sorry :o ).
I did not loose weight. I also had few patches of psoriazis (I "acquired" it when I came to Canada from Europe) - some cleared completely the others improved a lot. Other than this, I cannot say I see any makor improvements.
I had some hardtime at the beggining because it was still cold and no matter how many warming spices I had, it was not enough. I was also eating straight from the fridge - I will have to find a better way.
I have a VitaMix which I use noe regularly. No dehydrator yet. If this will become "the way" then I will buy one. For now, I am still in trial mode.
I had some success with sprouts. I eat them for breakfast with nut milk.
Chickpea sprouts - nope, don't like the taste. I tried to make raw hummus - nope... I like lentil sproouts and that's about it for sprouting legumes. I sprout a lot of grains, alfalfla and the like.
Soups - I did not like any of the recipes I made.
Cakes and sweets - I know I would love them but since i have to loose weight, I am going nowhere near such things. I will try to eliminate the nuts too - will see if i succeed.
Smoothies - some are good, some taste like medicine :(
Some raw stuff it is just .. well .... too raw for me .. like potatoes, squash, raw tea etc. Plus some ingredients might not be raw (spices and things like this).
I am experimenting here and there, trying to find some staples that I can freeze for variety mainly. I know if I keep eating salads only I will get bored one day.
Fruits make me hungry I cant have fruit only for breakfast.
My salads are huge ... and then I see people who eat a handfull of nuts and some brocolli for the whole day ... and others loosing 30lb a month ...it is somewhat confusing.
Next week I will increase the % raw and I am planning to not eat anything cooked for the summer. I get my organic veggies from a farm until Oct. With the winter, I guess I will play eat by ear as they say...
Kind of long for an intro ...sorry ..
