I have been eating raw pretty sucessfully now for three months. I am allergic to all nuts, chocolate, hemp seeds, pine nuts and soy. I have started to become sensitive to pumkin seeds and sunflower seeds so my only concentrated sources of protien are flax seeds and sesame seeds. I have been supplementing my diet with a daily vegtable juice or green drink containing kale and spirulina as I hear there is some protien there. I also use raw carob powder. I also don't do well on big amounts of sprouted legumes.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to other sources of raw protein?

I personally have always been very protein needy and was wary about this lifestyle initially for that reason especially coming from Atkins. However after a bit of experimenting I have found that for me a diet very rich in greens does the trick evey time! I even carry a bag fully of baby spinach with grape tomatos around with me in the car in case I am in "need" and boy that really does the trick! I also drink a lot of green smoothies & green soups :p

Please read this link, you don't assimilate protein by eating protein, as horses, monkeys, cows, apes don't eat protein like that.

Don't worry about it and make sure you get your greens. I can't eat any nuts seeds, soy, ect. either. As RP said you get protein from amino acids which are concentrated in fruits and vegetables!

Here's a link regarding protein requirements. It's in a question and answer format and some of it is repetitive, but read all the way through the list, it's interesting and states some good facts. Granted, it's not raw food based but the requirements for protein covered are useful to know for raw eating anyway. Combine this information with the link that rawpriestess gave and you should be set.

Our body 'recycles' proteins. So we don't needs as much as the SAD Pyramid and SAD nutritionists suggest we need. Check out this thread also.

The darker the green the more nutrient dense it is. The greens, especially the darker ones, contain a far amount of protien. I also can't handle many nuts and seeds yet, so I eat tons of greens. Not necessarily because I need to protien, but that's what my body feels best on and craves right now. That being said, maybe it is the protien I need since my body is craving them!

Blue green algae, such as E3Live is a great source, as is bee pollen.

RP is totally right, the human body makes protein from amino acids and there are plenty amino acids in greens, fruits and nuts/seeds. Don't worry about it. As long as you eat a balance of greens and fruits and some seeds that you can handle, you'll get more than enough 'protein'. It is an overrated nutrient in our culture to begin with. Protein is very easy to get and you will not become deficient if you practice a healthy and balanced raw, vegan diet.
