I am sure this is a repeat question(s), but, are Lara Bars really raw? They have some chocolate one's that ARE brownies!! Also, what is wrong with raw milk products? I am asking about physiological effects, not ethical. Thanks for any clue. Rawk on!

I don't know about the Lara Bars, but I can answer a bit about the milk...

For me, I can't usually drink milk or eat dairy products without phlegm forming in my lungs. Sometimes it doesn't happen, but other times I've started coughing up mucus immediately after eating a couple of slices of pizza. I think it's the casein in milk that causes that reaction in me. Since I stopped consuming dairy (for the most part), I haven't had to use inhalers for asthma, I breathe much more easily and deeply, and have higher energy levels due to the increased oxygen to my system.

To my understanding Lara Bars ingrediants are not all raw yet the company does not recook them, so they consider them raw. To me this means they are not at all raw.

Raw milk- hmmm, I personally don't think it's healthy. Once we have been weaned from our mothers milk we no longer need milk. No other wild animals drink milk passed weaning and they don't drink milk from another animal. There is digestion issues involved along with allergies also.

Personally I LOVE milk. I never dreamed that nut milk would be as good as it is. It is sooo good. You can make some great milk at home with nuts and water for a fraction of the cost of milk that you buy (raw/non-raw milk). It is soooo yummy. I make nut milk and raw brownies and enjoy them together for a nice treat. hmmmmm!

This is my observation as well if I have been out and have given in to the Starbuck's temptation. I had a cold recently which was all but gone, then I ate some pizza a few days ago and have been coughing up more phlegm ever since. I also noticed that I was getting constipated. I used to get constipated when I seriously pigged out on cheese - you know, just chomping on a huge block of cheese until I was full. In this case I think it was the coagulant in the cheese, not just the dairy itself. This time it was only from eating pizza. At first I didn't know what was up. It was a strange and uncomfortable feeling not to go 3 or 4 times a day as I have been when taking green smoothies every day and other raw things. It got to the point where I was quite seriously worried. Everything I ate just seemed to find a place in my innards and pile up there. Finally, days after the pizza episode, my phlegmy cough is over and I am back on schedule. I couldn't believe the hard tight feeling I had in my lower abdomen. I thought that I was headed for a bowel obstruction! I never used to be so aware of my system and what was taking place there!
If we are eating correctly, we should have a bm after every meal. When you eat a meal, the digestive system gets moving along the assembly line, so to speak, and it should move the residue from the previous meal out. If we eat things that hinder that, we can only expect trouble from the waste sitting in our systems and re-absorbing. UGHHHH!
Gotta be more careful and learn to truly appreciate the many benefits of raw.

Think Organic bars are all raw:

Some of the Lara bars are all raw, some, I understand are not. Do a search on this board for Lara bars and you'll find some other threads where people have called the company and questioned them and the posted their replies.

Thanks for answering. I work at a co-op in Maine and we get local raw cow's milk, and lots of raw sheep, goat and cow cheeses. I know raw is a lot different then pasturized as one of my kids gets the stinkiest gas on milk, unless it's raw, then there are no problems.

Thanks, Helen. When I do the search it gets confusing... that's why i thought I'd ask. I'll try it again, though.

Well raw milk is definitely better than the pasteurized, chemical-laden stuff you'd normally buy at the grocery store. I know that my experience with dairy, while not unique, is not universal either. Not everyone gets phlegmy, not everyone gets constipated, gassy, whatever. I suggest cutting out the dairy for a week or so and see if you feel any different. If you feel more energetic, less bloated, etc. then consider getting rid of dairy entirely. If you feel no different, then use your discretion. :)

We were at the farm yesterday and the owner and my mom were talking about raw goat and cow's milk. The owner said "they're a COMPLETELY different product." The distributers around here are organic so that's a huge factor in the "health" aspect of it.

It's up to each individual whether or not they consume raw milk, etc. but let's please keep in mind the overall theme of THIS board, which is that raw milk, cheese, eggs or meat are not advocated here and that there are raw food groups where they are if you care to discuss it more.

Thanks!

At first I was excited about LARA bars, but the truth is she doesn't use raw chocolate or cashews. Only certain brands of cashews are raw, the rest have been heated at hight temps to make them deshell easier. The ones LARA uses are not raw. Personally I wouldn't buy any product who claims to be raw and then when you look at the wrapper there is like 2 or 3 things in it that are not. They are lieing, because at this point they can since obviously the FDA doesn't recognize being RAW yet.

As for milk, milk is for baby cows and goats. It isn't a biologically correct food for the human. Even in it's raw state it will throw the body out of balance.

When I first became raw I missed milk but I found a perfect alternative that I can make quickly at home and is wonderful.

All you do is soak brazil nuts for 24 hrs.
The recipe is for one serving: and you will need a high speed blender.
Put 1 cup of pure water with 6 nuts in a blender with 1/2 t of raw honey, smidgen of raw salt and 1/4 t of vanilla and blend until super smooth - it tastes great. You can add raw cacao for a chocolate milk but you might want to add a bit more honey if you do this.
