Well, there IS a connection. I'm not just thinking it's a possibility, I'm conviced that there is a link to period and diet.
Long story short I didn't have my period for 2 years and I believe it was because of my ED and that I was too toxic eating cooked foods and multiple food intolerances and allergies. When I went raw the first time I dind't have it, I fell off and ate cooked for 6 months, still didn't have it. The WEEK I went raw again this time I got it. Then I dind't have it and then the WEEK I went all organic I got it again. Then I dind't have it and this past month I tried 4-5 "rawmaw bars" which are questionably raw and I don't think they are at all. I have my period again this month and my body is reacting as if it ate cooked. Why are companies allowed to lie like that!?
Hopefully that wasn't confusing!

No, not confusing. I've been very irregular all my life - maybe having 3 or 4 periods a year if I was lucky, and even then they were pretty short. Hardly ever had any cramping either, and while this sounds ideal, I'm convinced it was a symptom of a toxic body and unhealthy weight gain. Not a good thing.
The week I started going raw I started bleeding - and I kept on bleeding for 3 weeks! I realized at the time this was a good, cleansing process and I wasn't worried. :o

I've been very regular my entire life, you could set your 28 day clock to it, always 4 days, the second day terrible cramping and massive blood, LOL TMI I know
anyway, the month I went raw, all cramping stopped, and only 3 days, light, and that was a first, then the more raw I got the better it went, so no more PMS, no more cramping, no more heavy flow, etc.
I LOVE RAW!!!
for MANY reasons.
yes, it has changed my life, I can now actually HAVE a life.!!! LOL

When I eat all raw, I have no blood. When I first went all raw, I had blood every other month, then it totally left. When I went back to some cooked food, I got it back right away. Then when I went all raw again, it left and I don't have it anymore. I have to eat junk to have blood!!! And it's not that I have a low body fat percentage. Mine is high enough and I eat plenty of fats in my diet. I am very healthy, so I take it that it's a good sign.

Yea, it must have been the small amount of cooked I had. I didn't even THINK that they were questionable until I finished them up that week. I'm actually not feeling guilty about it though since they said "raw" so my count is still on, but I know not to do it again. Quite an annoyance I'll say lol.

There is a connection. A big one. We are the only animal that cooks its food and also the only animal that bleeds profusely during menstruation. A normal, healthy female mamal should ovulate with a clear streachy fluid and then if not pregnant she should have a clear discharge with a tinge or red or orange-ish blood in it and there should be little to no pain. There have been tests done (I do NOT advocate animal testing at all BTW) on healthy primates and dogs I believe where they were tested during their menstrual cycles on their natural biolgically appropriate diet and they had a clear fluid with a tinge of blood and then they were gradually switched to a diet that was not natural to them (I.E. kibble) and they began to bleed more.
In my case, I've been regular my whole life and always had horrible periods that were hard to deal with, except for one year a while back. before raw I didn't have a period for a year due to anorexia nervosa and then I became a compulsive cooked food eater believe it or not and my periods were horrid again. I bled A LOT for a full 7-8 days with unbelievable pain and cramps and it was just disgusting. I thought it was normal. It is NOT. Now, as I'm raw My periods now are very clear and I get less and less actual blood each time. I ovulate on time, once a month and bleed on time once a month. Raw has also helped my system adhere to lunaception which is the way that female mamals cycle when they are not exposed to unnatural light sources. Back when they had the only the moon and some dim firelight, women ovulated with the waxing moon and menstruated with the waning moon. I've been living by candlelight at night and been exposing myself to the moon and now my cycle is right on track.

Luckily when I do have mine it's only medium that last 2 days and then light 2 days. I've never had a cramp in my life. I only get depressed (usually it's suicidal when on cooked, but this time I was just numb) and I crave salt.

Sounds like you're doing great. It may take years of being very high raw before you start getting normal periods and even then, there is pollution that you can't really help being exposed to so we may never really get a chance to menstruate normally but each day on raw makes it better and better!

I have always had bleeding every month. Before I had my daughter, it was somewhat irregular, between 29-31 days between, and sometimes if I was stressed out it would be a few days late. Then since I had my daughter 4.5 years ago, after I stopped breastfeeding, my periods came back and have been like clockwork, every 26 days without fail. Now, my period was due on Friday but I haven't gotten it yet. We've been trying to have another baby. The home test I did last night was negative. I've been having some discharge but nothing pinkish or anything. I've been raw for 10 days. The only problem with this "no period" on raw is I don't know if the test was a false reading, and if I'm pregnant or if it's the drastic change in diet to raw.  :(

Rawfoodiemom, I know it can be weird to get used to and we love that clear 'not pregnant signal that blood gives us but have you tried temperature charting. During ovulation your basal body temperature will be lower and the rest of the month it is higher. I know we're talking about menstruation here though and I believe that basal body temperature is different when pregnant as well.

I have always had very severe bleeding. I will usually bleed for 6 or 7 months solid till I can't take it anymore and then I would go to the doctor and then get BC or a surgery. Well I have been raw 48 days and I had a period during this time, but I didn't have any bleeding with it. I know I was on my period because I had other symptoms. I hope things go this way in the future. We are trying to have a baby too and I am going to start the tempeture thing too.

Debra,
Two of my pregnancies showed up negative on home pregnancy tests when I tested right after my missed period.
I waited a few days and took the test again and they were positive.
I hope for you that you are.
Keep us posted!!

We went through a five year period of secondary infertility after having had two children. It wasn't until I started charting that we got pregnant again. It was within three months. I miscarried that baby and than got pregnant for a full term baby two months later.
I highly recommend Toni's book. I can't remember her last name. It is very popular and really teaches you about charting. If you haven't heard of it let me know and I will go write down the name of the book for you.
Good Luck!
