View Full Version : Going raw in Chicago

I've been trying raw on and off but now I have the time and lack of disctractions to jump in and do this completely... I'm wondering if there are any people on this list from Chicago? There aren't too many options here. I've been to Karyn's, and there is a little grocer / food coop in Rogers Park called New Leaf that I just discovered. I have plenty of reference materials, but I think simple is best most of the time. I've been trying out green smoothies and have found them to be easy and effective.
I look forward to keeping up with this list. :)

Hi all - new to the board and to raw as well. I've been at about 90% raw for a month and a half. I live in northwest suburbs. I'm having a ball with my VitaMix and Greenstar and spending less on groceries than I ever have. Love green smoothies with frozen super ripe strawberries. MMMMMMMM.
I went to Karyn's and sadly was not super impressed...... $60 with tip for brunch for 2, no juice refills and kind of a stuffy environment. Most of the food I tried was really good (except for the cheeses - maybe they were off that day?), but we won't be back. I'd rather experiment at home! :)

tbird: """"I went to Karyn's and sadly was not super impressed...... $60 with tip for brunch for 2, no juice refills """" when were you there?
I'm so sorry you were not impressed! We were there June 18th and so very very impressed. Except for the issue of polanta/couscous,(I had 3 of those!) it was very enjoyable. I would go back if I was in Chicago or close by. RAWgards Joz

I'm from Chicago!! I'm in Norwood Park - 2 blocks from Park Ridge!! Yes, Wyjoz, I saw that you were going to go to Karyn's a while back, but I didn't want to say that I was disappointed because I thought it was just me. :< Very expensive. I've heard great things about Cousins, it's on Irving Park rd. I have yet to get there. We should start a little potluck or meeting once a month or once every 2 months for all you Chicago or nearby Chicago people. I'm about 90%-100% raw, depending on the day, and would love to get together with some raw people and try out new recipes!!
