View Full Version : I Need Help! I Asked For A Raise And Got Let Go Instead!!!

Well sort of let go. I asked for a raise earlier this week because my bosses are constantly complimenting me and telling me what a wonderful job I am doing. I have always felt that I was very underpaid for what I do. I have been having a VERY hard time making ends meet financially.
So I asked for a raise on Monday. I was just told that they couldn't afford it and so I should start looking for something else. When I asked for the raise, I said I was happy here, but just couldn't make ends meet. I didn't want to work somewhere else, but I might have to start looking if I can't get paid more. I really didn't think they would say know. I thought for sure they would give me a raise!!! I am shocked. Totally. They told me they would give me some time to train someone new here - a month! So basically I have a month to find another means of money. I am in disbelief.
Here's the interesting part. I have been wanting to work for myself my whole life and I have seriously been considering taking Alissa's accelerated classes so I can start my own raw consulting business. I think it would be a dream to do that. So now I am not sure if this change is a blessing. Maybe it's what I have been asking for. But it seems like the timing is off because of my finances.
The big problem is money. I am asking, wishing, hoping, praying I will find some money to do this. I just need the money now. Wow, I can't believe this is happening.
I desperately need some advice. Right now I am a little freaked out and I am on the verge of tears. But I don't want to be negative. I know that isn't going to solve anything.
Have any of you quit your jobs to go into the raw foods business? If so, how did you manage it in the beginning. If you know of someone that has, can you forward this to them. I need advice badly!
Oh my god, I am freaking out.

First of all, freak out totally, cry, stomp your feet and blow out the energy about the unfairness of it all. Then, sit, go for a walk, take a few rounds of hot and cold showers, and allow awareness to come in. Believe it or not, the answers are inside you and will come.
For me, losing jobs has always been the best thing that has happened to me. You alone know what you need to do to survive and then move on to thrive. Take stock of inventory and resources. For instant income do you have anything you can sell? Time for a garage/yard sale maybe?
There is a recent thread on various ways to create income. You might wish to check it out if you've not already done so.
Best to you ~

One door slams shut... and three open!
This is a wonderful opportunity for you to do something you love!
Go for it!
Decide what you want to do then just DO it... the money will come.
Sell everything you don't need... this is a great time to have a BIG ole yard sale like Revell said! Go through your closet. If you haven't used something in 12 months... SELL it! Put it on craigslist or ebay. Find someone who is teaching Alissa's classes who might let you help out in exchange for certification... borrow the money... just DO it.
Think of how wonderful life will be when you get up and do something you love every day!
You can do it!

I did read that thread on income. It was helpful. I am trying to stay positive, but I gotta admit, I am pretty scared. You are right, RowanC, now is the time do find something I can do that I love. It is an opportunity. I know I will think of how to get the money soon.
Thank you. :)

Your superior thought that paying you compliments was pay check enough. I affirm staff often, it's amazing how ego is so easily pacified with sincere stroking, folks often forget their physical needs ($$$) when their psyche and self esteem are satisfied. But it's true appreciation and gratitude for a job well done does not pay the rent.

You are absolutely right. They did a great job of making me feel secure and safe in my position. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough. I wish it were. They are great bosses to work for, even if working there isn't my life dream.

Hi Akh!
I agree with everyone here, just flow through all of the emotions. Take a couple of days to just pamper yourself, take a walk, take a bath. But most importantly watch and listen. Watch and listen to signs all around you. The universe has an interesting way of getting our attention!
I believe that everything happens for a reason, to help us grow and to learn.
When you have gotten all of the negative emotions out of the way, write a statement of what you want to have happen, spend time everyday visualizing life the way that you want it to be and let the universe handle the how.
Now I know how you feel, my DH lost his job after 10 years of perfect service, the office politics were awful and he was set up and fired. It hit him like a truck, and being so deeply in debt and having 4 boys we panicked, we had no idea what we would do. This was last August.
We decided to focus on everything being ok, that everything would work out instead of being afraid.
Hubby found a great job that he loves (not as much money and we still struggle every month) and I started my own business and am developing myself more and more everyday. But we have survived.
One of the things that really helped... If you are open to it....
was watching "The Secret". I know that it has been mentioned in other threads but it is really great. It takes about 90 min but again it is well worth it.
hugs

Jo,
Thanks for the advice/encouragement. It's funny that you mentioned The Secret. I actually posted a link to that movie on here a while back. It's a great documentary. I actually saw it and it kind of prompted me to ask for my raise.
As far as my job goes, it is still open-ended. They know I will leave at some point and they could cut me off at anytime, but I am still here until I can figure something else out. I am trying not to worry too much. If they let me go tomorrow, I will just figure out something else. I know I will be okay. Right now I am just trying to figure out how to start my own business. I am just looking into all different kinds of things now. No idea where I will end up. Just trying to stay postive.
Thanks!

Please KNOW that what you focus on you manifest in your life.
so, if you are focus on NOT ENOUGH MONEY, you will have that.
if you focus on, I HAVE UNLIMITED ABUNDANCE IN ALL THINGS, you will have that.
so, it is all up to you and what you choose to focus on.
I know you will have the perfect opportunities come to you, in the blink of an eye, and you will realize how beautiful this moment is, to be able to release this job, and move on to your true path.

I don't think it was a good idea to threaten your employer with- I will have to go somewhere else if you don't give me a raise... (unless you already have a viable option or plan). Simply requesting a raise without the threat may have worked better in your favor.

I know Schall Adams from this board quit her job and is making a go at a career in raw.

I must admit, as an employer, if one of my employees came to me with this, I WOULD FOR SURE CALL THEIR BLUFF.
In poker, they say, "don't bluff, unless you have great cards." Which means, DON"T BLUFF, unless you can afford to lose, because IF you did have great cards, it wouldn't be a bluff.
You see, I give my employees ALL I can, and more. But "IF" they said they couldn't make ends meet, I would give them the go ahead to find other employment. No worries there. It's not because I don't care, it is because I DO CARE about them, and want them to be safe, secure and happy with their job.
If they are stressed over money, then they shouldn't be working for me, as I don't want that energy here, and trust me, I've had the same gardeners for over 9 years, so I do pay well. I give them lots of raises, and fringe benefits, great holiday gifts, money, bonuses, parties, free stuff, I pay for their classes, travel, etc. LOL
I have changed my office staff recently, so I don't count that, it wasn't because they left, it was because, I chose a different path.

RP,
How do you do that? I know it seems simple, but I am having a hard time doing that. Can you give me some tools/ideas to help me do that? I kind of feel stupid for even asking. But I feel stuck.

Well, there are a bunch of ways, the main thing is to allow your fears to be what they are, a wake up call, that something isn't right.
So, if you have fear, usually you need more knowledge.
I used to teach alot of classes, and one was How to Manifest Miracles, and the firs thing I would ask people, was "for what purpose are you in this class?"
and almost everyone would say, "more money", so I would give everyone a $1.00 bill, and say "class is over, you have reached your goal." and they would just look at me.
so then I would, say, "Oh, you mean you want even more?" and I would give them another dollar, finally someone would understand, and say, "I think maybe I should be more specific." and I would say, "bingo."
then we would go through some exercises, and they would list what they wanted, and when and all, then I would tell them to "burst your boundaries" and we would all add a (0) zero to the number we wanted to make, then I would have them all talk about how they felt to even think of making that much money, then we would add another (0) zero to it, and see what happens, people would get really nervous now.
We would also talk about how little and how much they had made in the past, and that would be their "normal boundaries" etc.
It is as easy as eating raw food, you just do it.
also, there is a movie called "the secret" which might help you out.
or you can email me at cdwinters@aol.com and I will do what I can to help you more.

RP,
Thank you. That is very interesting. I did see The Secret. It's funny, two people have mentioned that to me today and I posted the link to The Secret here on this forum a while back. I think I need to watch it again though, obviously. :)
And thank you for sending me your email. :)

There are a lot of ideas on the abundance thread on this forum: http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8805&page=1&pp=25
And also, many ideas given on the "work at home" threads (there are more than just the one you started) on how to create income.
Look at the words you wrote at the top of the page "let go". Do so and move on. Freaking out is a waste of time and energy (after doing it once ~ have you?). Let go. It's done (is it?). As many have said ~ one door closes, another opens. If you're still holding on to the past, it's hard to be in the present ~ and therefore move into the future. Step on through to the other side and see what's available.

Okay in response to a couple of comments.
Yes, even though I was very nice about it and did not say anything in a rude threatening way, the way I put it to my employer probably was not the best way to put it. I realize it was a mistake to put it that way. But even though things have happened they way the have, it is kind of a blessing. It has forced me to search for ways to make positive changes. I haven't got it all figured out yet, but I am not sorry things have turned out they way they have.
No, I am not freaking about my job being up in the air anymore. I have moved on from the freaking out stage. I know if I lose my job today or tomorrow, I can always find work. It might not be my dream job, but I will always be able to pay the bills. So I am not worried about that anymore. My focus now is trying to find something inspiring and something that will fill my senses to the brim.

I like the way you word that ~ "fill my senses to the brim". How cool is that?

Akh,
Have you thought that you might have put out into the universe that you wanted more money, and by you leaving this job, it could happen. With the law of Attraction, they say that when you put your thoughts into the universe, the universe will answer, but you don't know how it will come. This may be the way you are being answered. Without leaving your job, maybe you wouldn't start Raw Foods? (you mentioned wanting to do that) Maybe this is your push to do so. Or other options are on their way? The universe is answering, so go with it. It will work out!! :)
"Ask and It is Given" by Abraham-Hicks is a great book on how to change your vibrations to be able to recieve the what the Universe brings you. It also shows you how to handle your thoughts, so you they aren't negative. Like RP said, if you worry about not having something, that is what you'll get. You have to be positive and there are steps to do that. Hope this helps you a bit! And good luck!

I am a Human Resources Manager and deal with employee issues all the time. In England we have employment legislation that protects employees from unfair treatment by their employers so perhaps you should take some legal advice on this. It is not reasonable to fire you because you asked for a raise!!
I'm not familiar with US employment law - unfortunately in England all our rules are made for us by Fat Cats in Europe and we have to comply - but check it out.
On the positive side, if you do end up leaving, treat it as the opportunity to start afresh and maybe do all those things you wanted to do but were afraid to!
Good Luck!

Looks like all you needed was time for everything to settle in. No. 1 is to never panic. As they say in my country; I was looking for a job when I found this one. I think you will be just fine........
You've asked for a raise. And you've got it! This is the opportunity for you to do what you have been wanting to do your whole life, to raise to a whole new level. Look at it this way: if they didn't let you go, you'd probably be working there your whole life instead of following your soul's purpose. This Ã*s a blessing and the timing isn't off, it is the right time for you to do this right now. Because when will it ever be the right time to take a leap of faith? If you have been wanting to work for yourself your whole life, why wait your whole life?
I think that deep in your heart, you know very well what to do. Of course, fear is telling you different, fear for the unknown and how the hell you will ever get your finances together etc., but don't let that pull you back. You could say that that is your lower self or ego, that doesn't want you to change but wants you to stick to the way things were, even if those things weren't thát great.
Things will work out, and if you follow your life's purpose, you are going to do great and feel wonderful and there will be opportunities. Not only are you going to do something that will truly satisfy you, you are also going to make a difference in the life of others, think of that! No underpaid job because of the safety of it is going to ever give you that. The only thing is that you have to trust your gut feeling and go for it, despite the fear!
If you read your own words again, it is not the fear you should follow, but the one part that truly makes sense, the part that I quoted. I'll repeat it for you:
Here's the interesting part. I have been wanting to work for myself my whole life and I have seriously been considering taking Alissa's accelerated classes so I can start my own raw consulting business. I think it would be a dream to do that. Notice how calm, wise and loving it sounds. That is your soul speaking. Don't ignore it.
