View Full Version : Fasting - what if you eat one thing?

I'm just beginning (what I hope to be) a 21 day water fast. I do not plan on drinking fresh juice, taking enemas/colonics or vitamins. I am doing this mainly to cleanse and lose 10 lbs (I would like to loose a few more, seeing that a few are due to come back).

Can anyone tell me the detriment of eating one thing during the fast? What if I break and eat one orange or banana? I would like to have the information and motivation NOT to do this.

Also - does one lose the weight much more quickly when water fasting? I am choosing to do water because I assume that the benefits are greater. Juice is also cumbersome and difficult to make (10 hour working days), and it is generally unnatural to me.

Please respond if you have any words of motivation or inspiration!

a fast should have 2 to 5 days before to eat less and less foods, and 2 to 5 days after to ween yourself back onto foods, also no fast over 2 days, should be unsupervised, also a water fast is always done while NOT working,

so working 10 hours days is not to be done while fasting especially water fasting, fasting is not just to lose weight, there are hundreds of other ways to do this, fasting is to cleanse, and you won't be cleansing anything, if you don't eliminate, and you won't be eliminating anything if you have no fiber in your colon, so a water fast, must be accompanied by massage of the digestive system, enemas and colonics, but that is only what I have read, I've never been inclined to starve myself, lower my metabolism, then try to re-start it.

I know alot of people say that fasting is great, and I'm sure it is for them.

But it is not a healthy way to lose weight, if you are going to be working 10 hour work days, with a fast of this length 21 days, I would certainly go to a retreat who speciallizes in this, and rest, that is paramount to cleansing, they will also have you supervised, so they can watch what you are doing and reacting correctly.

I just wanted to add that a 21 day water fast alone can be dangerous. If you're only doing it to lose 10 pounds trust me, you'll go way past that. Even a 5-7 day fast can get rid of the weight if that's one of the main reason for doing this. Just be careful.

a 21 day fast is serious matter....fasting is usually not done for weight loss....yes, weight loss happens....but that weight comes back on quickly....

there are many better ways to loose 10 pounds...by exercising and consuming fewer calories...by injesting high greens and low sugar fruit.....

not sure if you have fasted...you may want to research some more on fasting...its not something you do while working all day...and for that length of fast it is usually done with supervision and guidance....

I fasted for 3 months when I was confined to my bed mostly. I did this for serious health reason. I lost over 30 pounds, but after I started eating they came back quickly, but the fast cleansed me and I was much healthier. I was under the close eye of someone else and I was not working during such a fast. I suggest you do a weekend fast on your days off and then maybe the next week try a 3 day and inbetween drink alot of juices and fresh fruits and juices. If your just looking weight loss I suggest you just try raw and living foods for 21 days. You may be shocked with the results. I lost 20 pounds in my first month raw. The first time I was raw I lost 44 pounds in less then 3 months.

PandaBear... what are you NUTS!!!!!? Kidding....

Fasting can be a wonderful experience, or a quagmire of mixed emotions and physical manifeststions that you never knew you would experience willingly. It's a mixed bag and the best advice is to study up for a bit.

I knew many women and a few men that lossed weight this way but gained it all back and then some because they did not address any of the emotional issues surrounding their weight gain and overeating in the first place. One needs to do that work first before any chance of long term weight stability can occur.

Actually, a three week water fast sounds about right for a 10-15 pound fat loss, as you correctly assessed water and intercellular fluids account for some of the immediate weight gain post fasting.

From the sound of it, you would probably do best with the exercise and the eat less approach for awhile since you say you are working.
Don't fool around with fasting for weight loss while your working.

When I did a ten day water fast, I lost 15 pounds. I wouldn't do it again without supervision because I felt so enervated and could barely walk around the house. My eyes got really hollow and after the fast it took months for me to get back to my normal energy levels.
