I have found a great out to eat fast food that is Raw I think??????
I am sure it is not organic but this is going to be a great alternative for me when I dont want to make something myself...........
big bowl of either iceburg shredded lettuce or spinach and all the veggies......tomatoes, cucumbers, shredded carrots, jalepenos, banana peppers, green peppers, black olives, onions...........yummmmmmmm
Then I top it with a raw salad dressing........
Do you guys see anything problematic about this meal????
I am sure the olives are not raw and i think they marinate the banana peppers in something.........
Thought?

well the fresh veggies are certaintly raw I should hope!
I actually ordered this salad a couple of weeks ago, and just had them top it with oil and vinegar....I imagine the olives aren't raw, nor the oil cold-pressed, but it didn't make me feel ill!

The hot peppers and olives are probably not raw.

Julie do you think they are cooked?

The olives appear to be standard black olives from a can. Canned foods are cooked. Can't say for sure about the peppers since I don't like them and don't eat them.

Perhaps I will opt out on subways olives and put some raw ones on at home. I am loving this fast food substitute. I was craving my lunch salad at like 9 am this morning.................

The olives, jalapeno, and banana peppers likely aren't raw (all probably canned). However, the rest almost certainly is. A lot of fast food places have salads nowadays, which is good.

YES, the black olives, jalepenos and banana peppers(peppercinis) are not raw, I used to love their salads, but just like the salads at McDonalds, you can eat the parts that are, just ask for none of the above, but all the fresh veggies and greens are raw

Do you think the banana peppers are marinated in something? i love the taste of them. If so how could i make them raw. Can you buy fresh banana peppers at the grocery store. The jalenpenos you can......sometimes hard to find organic peppers but fresh conventional I can find and raw olives i would have to order online as the only olives around here are in a jar but are organic. I am just thrilled to find this salad option as I am not a big fan of mcdonalds or wendy or BK salads.........seems all they have on them are lettuce tomatoe and maybe a couple of cucumbers and usually cheese as they are premade. At least this appears to be more fresh.........

Are these things cooked if they are canned? Chemicals added? whats the scoop?

Hi,
The olives and peppers are not marinated. They are straight out of the can (olives) or jar (peppers). I worked at Subway for 10 years. (and if I can brag a bit, i was the 13th fastest sandwich maker in the world in 1991)
Also, when I was there, the oil used on all sandwiches and salads was not olive oil, just vegetable oil (like crisco).
Hope this helps!!

banana peppers can be bought fresh and they marinate them in the jar in vinegar, similar to pickles, yes, they can be made raw, and I would be chemicals, but they are not raw if they come in a jar, as they have to seal the jars by boiling them.
as an interesting side note, pork and beans is placed in the cans not cooked, the canning process cooks the beans and pork enough to eat out of the can. how weird is that, just shows how much cooking is involved in the canning process.
you just have to get the right kind of peppers, we grow our own, and make our own marinated peppes, pickles etc. it's not hard, it just takes time and a place to put the jars. no canning, just place them in the fridge.

I just gotta state this...raw food is fast, so why do you need to support a fast food restaurant and basically the only thing raw on the salad is the lettuce! All the stuff that tastes good like the olives, peppers, oil etc...are canned or preserved with no life left in them.
And what I mean by raw food being fast is....what's faster than grabbing a banana, apple, and an orange. Or putting raw almond butter on a banana or in celery?! Or trail mix?! What's faster than making a smoothie? Being a mom of twins, I prefer raw because it is soooo simple and I never am tempted to run into a fast food restaurant.
Ok, had to state this. Never want to offend anyone, of course.

I have to agree with Twinyoga. And I have to also add that I learned from Alissa that iceberg lettuce does not have a lot of nutrientional value. You are way better off making an even better tasting salad at home.

I only ate at Subway that one day because I was out with friends and had already eaten my fruit and goodies that I brought with me..I agree that it wasn't the best salad ever.

If you're ever stuck in that situation and end up at subway i suggest the baby spinach and hold off the other cooked items. Add some olive oil on it maybe. Sure it'll be a little bland, but it'll tide you over until you're able to get home and eat.
