Okay, so I still drink coffee...Lately a lot more as I am desperately trying to finish my master's thesis. Anyways, I went to the ob/gyn for my yearly and they did a breast exam. The doctor asked if I had been drinking a lot of caffeine because my breasts were fibrocystic. This means they are lumpier (not cancerous, it's just a condition) than usual and I guess some women find it painful, but not me. Anyways, the big problem with this is you can get cysts and it is harder to find cancerous growths because of the lumpiness. I knew I should be giving up caffeine and I have read the other threads on it, etc.. but there is nothing like something actually happening to you to wake you up (no pun intended)!

As many of you know, I'm planning a Spiritual Pilgrimage to Santiago Compostela so I'm in the middle of a lot of planning and exploring. Last night my son and I attended a lecture at REI that was given by a man who walked the Appalacian Trial last year. During the lecture, he was talking about drugs & alcohol and he put up on the screen the results of some scientic research done on spiders and drugs/alcohol. Apparently, various drugs were given to spiders and the results of their webspinning was photographed. There were webs of spiders done on mescaline, LSD, marijuana, and a few others. The webs were all different.. very interesting. But the last web was horrible. All helter=skelter with no uniformity or particular pattern. When he showed what substance this spider was under the influence of, it was.. you guessed it... CAFFEINE!

I was amazed.

Hi greenfeline!
Have you tried substituting a smoothie made with raw cacao? I have one of these every day, and my husband has recently started to request them instead of his daily coffee too! (And he's not even high raw, he just likes them!) We both notice the effect is much like coffee, except without the jitteriness. Just an idea I wanted to throw out. Also, I find the simpler my diet is the night before, the better I feel the next morning on waking.
Cheers!

Thanks for telling us.

I had given it up a few months ago (in the form of soda as I never liked coffee) but then had some last weekend. BLAH! It's amazing how it feels and tastes after you haven't had any for a while.

It's a hard thing to give up, but well worth it.

I found wheatgrass to be a great substitute

Thanks for the advice everyone! Yes everyone, including males should give up coffee! I just put females specifically because of the breast specific focus. I am going to try the wheatgrass and smoothies!

I am trying to decide if the 5mg of caffine in de-caf green tea is going to harm me or not if I drink it everyday.

The small amount of caffine still affects me, though.

Why would they call it de caf if it isn't, LOL"""

Hmm, to get money still from those that don't want the caffine maybe?

strange...my breasts are like that too but I don't drink coffee...they just got lumpy after breastfeeding. I don't think I'd be able to tell the difference between a cyst or the regular lumpiness if I tried.

Oh, that's gross. Lumpy breasts! LOL! I'm sure THAT sounds appealing... :D
