View Full Version : What did you eat today????

I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread where everyone can list what foods they've consumed for the day. It's easier for those of us who do not have a journal to list it in a thread, in addition, we can look at what other people ate and get ideas for our own meals.

**I just ask that if anyone had a slip-up of any kind and ate non-raw food, please do not go into detail. Simply state that you had a slip-up, do not say things like " i ate a pizza, then mcdonalds, then a coke and some cake" , because I know for myself and others that have mentioned that it makes me interested in food that I initially did not want, but once I see someone else can slip up and move on, then maybe I can "cheat" and get back on track. **

So I'll start first.......
I'll also list my exercise if I had any for the day. Today i just walked around campus a bunch, but other than that I didnt do anything.

Food:

1 Banana
Smoothie: 1 banana, handful of strawberries, total greens powder, 1 scoop hemp protein, stevia
raw "cheeseburger" and salad from cilantro live!
raw pumpkin pie from cilantro live
broccoli and guacamole
HUGE raw almond/cashew/ chai cookie
smoothie: 1 banana, handful of strawberries, total greens, stevia, juice of 1 lime

* on a sidenote, I don't usually eat like this. I normally eat very simple but I decided to treat myself today with the cheeseburger, cookie, and pie, and i've realized that it didnt make me feel the greatest, so I won't be eating like this on a normal basis*

Ok let's keep this thread going :D

Hi, I noticed that you ate the lemon larabar. I really really really wanted to try it because I LoVED lemon bars, but on the package it says "lemon juice concentrate" but it still says the product is 100% raw so I was thrown a bit. When I think of lemon juice concentrate, i think of the bottles you buy at the grocery store, which are definitely not raw. I'm also very particular with these supposed 100% raw bars because I used to eat organic food bars alot, and one day decided to contact the company and they told me the package was misprinted and a couple of their bars were only 95% raw, but it was too costly to bring in the supplies and repackage with the proper information so they were going to wait continue to use the wrong lables until they were done, then create new labels with the proper information.

what do you think?

Hi --- I know the question was not directed at me but I have heard that Larabars are not really raw but they claim to be unprocessed and unheated so I guess they are.

Boz
06-06-2006, 11:30 PM
Well, I know others have mentioned that they are considered raw because the company does not cook them or heat them past 112 or whatever degrees. But then the question arises of if the ingredients put into it are raw. Like i could make bars that i dont heat at all, but i could buy dates and cashews that could possibly not be raw, but I could label it raw because from me it is raw. I hope that makes sense????

I was just wondering about that lemon bar one, because of the lemon juice concentrate.....

heabrook

I just checked their web site

The ingredients for the lemon bar also include

"natural lemon flavor"

dates, cashews, almonds, lemon juice concentrate, natural lemon flavor

Although they do not heat/process, it is quite clear that their ingredients are not necessarily raw to start off with.

From Larabar's web site:

What is the lemon juice concentrate and lemon flavor used in the LÄRABAR Lemon Bar?

The lemon juice concentrate we use is made from pure lemon juice and lemon pulp, which is flash pasteurized to ensure it is safe to consume. The lemon flavor we use is made from a cold press process during which the fruit skin yields pure essential oil.

Either way - they're tasty, and it's hardly like eating a Snickers bar... I'm not gonna get too hung up on whether I'm 95% or 100% raw from one day to the next - christ, I consumed gluten every day for the first 30 years of my life before I realised I was a Celiac. A little lemon juice is the least of my problems! :p

Daughter was home sick today and I wasn't feeling super well, so I stayed in bed.

Had my first meal around noon. That was a handful of pecans and a few goji berries.

Took daughter out for dinner after Dr. appointment. Had a big salad with pico de gallo.

Am snacking right now on pumpkin seeds and coconut.

Today was an off day. I usually eat more veggies.

No the ingredients are not truly raw but their bars are uncooked. There was a big thread about this you can search if you would like, and the company never answered my question about their ingredients so that tells me they aren't truly raw.

This is my public journal I started on FitDay.com on the first of June: http://www.fitday.com/WebFit/PublicJournals.html?Owner=Rawnut

I don't actually write in the journal. I just keep track of what I eat there. You'll see that one day I had raw fish...I know, I know. I was having cooked food cravings and I figured at least it was raw. I do strive to be raw AND vegan though. I'm not done eating today. You'll see some cooked food on the fith, I think. Sorry!!

Some of the ingredients go into smoothies, if not most.

Well, so far I've had a mango and two handfulls of cherries and right now I'm having a big bowl or broccoli and cucumber slices with lemon juice squeezed over them. And after that, we'll see what I desire!

i still was not feeling too great today, after my extravagant meals that I consumed yesterday. I had:

*1 banana
*smoothie: 1 banana, strawberries, hemp protein, total greens, stevia

*3 bananas
*smoothie: 1.5 bananas, strawberries, total greens, stevia

*3 1/2 small avocados, 2 tomatoes and lemon juiced mixed
*broccoli, cucumber dipped in :p

*1 banana, strawberry ice cream

today I didnt do that well in comparison to other days. I ate way too much dehydrated food yesterday and my body didnt feel good at all today. I ate too much fat for my body to handle, and i feel excessively lazy right now  I also ate 6 pieces of sugar laden kids bubble gum (sorry if that tempted anyone)

So my question of the evening is as follows:

So we've had discussions about the "rawness" of a larabar. Well I ate at a very well known raw food restarant yesterday and felt like crap since. So I wonder, how we, as raw foodists, can trust these so called "raw restaurants" to actually be raw. Larabar claims to be raw because they don't cook the bars but quite possibly the ingredients are not raw. How do I know that the restaurant I went to yesterday, and all the other ones, use raw ingredients and put actual care and effort into making the best quality food under specified raw guidelines. I cant help but to think that maybe they are dehydrating flax crackers that they need more of immediately so they crank the temperature up to 150 degrees and cook them. Sorry, maybe I'm overly negative and I have trust issues. People trust restaurants but it's easy to make mistakes, additionally some people will do anything to succeed, and anything to have a successful business even if it means being dishonest and hurting others along the way.

Think about it and let me know how you feel.

Hey Boz,
I'm going to Cilantro Live this weekend. The one in Carlsbad. I have only gone once before and got the sample platter. Everything was so good... especially the rawviollis! What have you had that you love/dislike? Everything looked delicious... but whats you favorite? I'll post what I ate today at the end of the day. So far for breakfast I have had a Green Juice of - Apples, ginger, cranberry, and romaine. MMMM... good combo.

Boz,

I am sorry you had a bad experience-- I find raw restaurants use a LOT more spices and salt than I ever would so I too feel a bit worse. Plus most of the combos are not well combined. However chalk it up to a learning experience for yourself. Also, Do what i did--go right to the owner and ask what goes in and what can they do for accomodating your needs etc. Sometimes in life we go on faith--which is all about not seeing. Ask for what you need and keep moving forward :)

"some people will do anything to succeed, and anything to have a successful business even if it means being dishonest and hurting others along the way."

where do you get this belief structure, what you focus on you will bring more to you.

I don't eat out at raw restaurants, only because we don't have one, but I've gone to countless raw pot lucks, and I've eaten many things there, it's all about trusting the Universe to provide wonderful and glorious experiences for you.

Why would you think that people will do anythign to have a successful business, and really, do you think that someone will go to all the trouble of having a raw restaurant, and all that expense, just to deliberatley turn up their dehydrator on their food?

how strange would this be?

if they were out to make money, they certainly wouldn't be opening a raw restaurant, or any restaurant for that matter, restaurants are the number one money killer in business, they can be great too, but not necessarily.

I have friends who own restaurants, and the over head is unbelievably high, especially at a raw restaurant, you see they can't cook anything to preserve it, they can't make something then put it aside for tomorrow, they can't buy frozen packaged food and microwave it the minute you order it, they can't open a can or box and make your food immediately, every little thing must be made fresh, from the pate' to the dessert, to the condiments.

if they wanted to make money, they'd be running a McDonalds' franchise.

Hi cassidy, the first time I went I had the sample platter and I wasnt raw at all, I had really just learned the basics of it, and I laughed at the idea, so i just remeber thinking about it was ok, but I did really like the ravioli. The second time I went, I had the raviolis and loved them again. the third time I had the lasagne, which i liked a lot but it was a bit rich. and on tuesday i had the cheeseburger and that didnt do me any good at all. Taste-wise was decent, but possibly i didnt feel well after it because i do not eat grain-like things and the bun was made of buckwheat, although its a fruit, that was probably what didnt sit well with me. anyways, a friend ordered the taco i think. it was the one that came with spanish rice, and i tried some of his and didnt like it too much because it was spicy and the shell was made out of tomatillo leather (too tough for a shell, in my opinion). and my sister got the pate combo. they have three types of pate, you get one of each on a lettuce leaf, and i tried hers and it wasnt anything that great. I recommend getting the lasagne, or trying something new.

As for dessert, you NEED to get the coconut lime pie. It is sooooooooooooooooooooo good. I cannot emphasize how good it is. I've had the pumpkin pie, which was decent, adn the carrot cake that just tasted like carrot pulp to me, and nothing compares to teh coconut lime pie. You can also check out their menu online and they have pictures of the foods online as well. Have fun :D

.
I guess I've had a difficult time with people taking advantage of me and situations I've been in over the past couple months so now I begin to question alot of things.

I do trust that God has brought and will bring good to me but it is undeniable that there are bad people in this world.

For example: on the news they sent undercover shoppers to an "estate sale" that was being held and people were wanting to buy all these beautiful pieces from the estates. Then after closing, the salesman took all the pieces back to his store. Basically there was no estate, it was a business mans store and they were lying and he saying it was an estate sale and after people would leave he would move the items back and forth. He was confronted and he said he didnt know what anyone was talking about.

I asked this question because I was wondering how other people felt on the topic. I understand that alot of time and thought is put into opening a raw restaurant by someone who has a passion for it. But the owner most likely isnt always there, and I know for a fact that some of the workers at the restaurant I was at on tuesday were not raw. so i'm just saying that I dont know how good their intentions are when they are in a bind, but they are still requried to prepare the food delicately and with care. Do they actually care enough to continue to make it properly or will they rush and do whatever they need to get the food out onto the table?

I hope this doesnt seem like i'm arguing I'm just expressing my opinion on the topic.

Typical this time of year here.

B) Oranges from our trees, mostly I like to juice without the strainer. Throw in a few strawberries and blend a little.

L) Frozen fresh figs from last years picking (have 4 fig trees) homogenized with golden flax seed.

D) Mostly dark romaine salad, red bells, shedded carrot, tomato, cucumber, cabbage, chard, brocoli florets, chard and brocoli stems I steam like a bad boy if I don't juice them with carrots the next day,
And for a dressing I use freshly powdered nut meal and squeezed OJ or tangerine juice. Wet then combine with powder, toss till slightly congealed.

That's about it.

So far I've had a HUGE organic salad topped with tomatoes, cucumbers, sunflower seeds and sesame seeds, all raw (unfortunately not organic though) and a dressing of lemon juice. and soon I'll have some strawberry banana crepes and banana 'icecream' blended with some vanilla bean seeds, later. I've got a ton of mangoes that I need to eat before they get too soft as well.

I should also add in that I am aware that just because workers at a raw restaurant are not raw, doesnt mean that they'd do anything more vindictive than a raw foodist would do. I do not have anything against junk eaters :) except their food choice.

I think posting daily menus is a great idea! I want to try some of the meals eveyone is having.

Today I had for breakfast:

a green drink with sunflower sprouts, pea shoots, cucumber, Kale, and celery
a smoothie with coconut water and berries
a tablesoon of help seeds

Lunch:

a sandwich with two slices of sprouted grain bread (I'm not 100% raw yet but hope to be soon!)
1/2 of avocado
spinach, sprouts, cucumber and tomatoes

Snack:

Raw ice cream. You have to try some if you haven't already! I got the recipe from a website. I would like to give credit but I'm sorry I don't remember which one. Anyway, you put 1 cup of almond milk in a vitamix with 1/4 cup agave, 1/4 cup cacoa nibs, meat from one coconut, and 1tsp of mint extract. Then process in an ice cream maker. So yummy!!!!

Dinner:

A crushed salad with lots of veggies mentioned.

I'll probably still have something before I go to bed.

trying to remember what i have been munching on all day!! :)

*juicer - cantaloupe, watermelon and lemon

*smoothie - sunflower seed and almond milk, blueberries, spinach, apple/peach juice pulp

*pourage/"oatmeal" -- pumkins seeds-almond pulp, mixed with a puree of raisen and prunes (gave it a nice, sweet tasting thick granola taste), topped w/ sliced strawberries, almond milk, and that yummy "caramel" recipe i found posted! it was fabulous.......may become my new breakfast or dessert favorite!

*snacked on my first try at making veggie crackers (and they came out great even without a dehydrator!! ) with hummus (walnuts-some veggie pulp-lemon and garlic- lil bit of olive oil/water, and spice -- yum :D )

*juicer - spinach, kale, sweet pot, carrot, celery, cantaloupe, apple, lemon, ginger, cucumber

*a yummy smoothie (very filling) --spinach, cucumber, watermelon, peach and almond milk

*carrots and my yummy concoction of hummus late night!! :)

i am totally new to this RAW SCENE, but am loving it. have always been a health nut, but also LOVE to eat, and experiment!! :)
since becoming addicted to my juicer (only have had it @ 3 weeks!), i am totally loving this whole other area of health. the possiblities are absolutely endless.
who knew these combinations would work, and be so sooooooo yummy!!
the best part, is knowing what a difference it is making on our health!!

.Mookie the 3 G's are the first letters of my given name.
I have been using the name "Dragggon" for about 30 years now for my art work ect.
A few years ago I had it made my name legaly.

Yes, it is pronounced just like "dragon"

The one from trader joe's.

I think it is pretty good, as in it doesnt have any fillers and its only like $6-$8 for a good sized container. That is in comparison to Barleans, Perfect Food and Vitamineral and those such products.

I personally am just trying to use it up so then I can start using real greens in my smoothies. But if I dont have any greens or if i'm not in the mood for a kale flavored smoothie, I enjoy this :)

Today I ate:

in the morning smoothie made from 3 small bananas, black kale, dandellion greens, water and several tablespoons freshly ground flaxseeds. My son helped me to drink it.
then an apple and some carrots
then I ate 2 big grapefruits, some raisins and pumpkin seeds
for dinner I had a huge salad made from romaine lettuce, avocado, celery, scallions and oil, apple cider vinegar dressing.
Couple bananas.
I am thinking about some peaches, but maybe I just drink some water with lemon juice instead - oh, I did not mentioned water in the morning and between meals.

well, what I do is eat three meals a day, or at least try to. For example, today, i ate two oranges, a pear and an apple in the morning. that's around 8 am. then at around 2 or 3pm, I'll eat a large salad, the usual ingredients..cucumber, tomato, lettece, peppers, onions, carrots, mushrooms, ect. And sometimes I'll add some raw cashew nuts into it. It gives it an obviously nutty flavor :)

then, in the evening, I'll have a smoothie, or a large fruit salad, or a soup. it all depends on the day.

I find that the less times you eat throughout the day, the easier it becomes to stay away from cooked foods. but then again, everyone has their own prefences.

thank you all so much for sharing. :D

I've enjoyed reading these posts, especially iloverawfoods...I am about 210 and I have dreamed of getting to 150...with my real goal at about 125 or so (I'm 5' 3).

I am probably about 75% raw right now, eagerly awaiting Alissa's book - I ordered it last Friday.

I have been making salads with red leaf lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, carrots, onions, cukes, apples, sunflower seeds and raisins and raw cashews. Very satisfying.

Loving all the fresh fruits!

Thanks for sharing.

Ok, I'm going to chime in here. I've read your posts and can't believe some of you can make it through the day with the amount you eat (see my previous posting in "Can't eat enough!!!") Here's what I ate yesterday:

Breakfast:

Smoothie with 3 bananas, 4 apricots, 1 nectarine, crushed ice and supplements - made about 2 1/2 cups - I had no problem consuming this.

Lunch:

2 large salads with napa cabbage, tomatoes, and almonds topped with an oriental-type dressing (olive oil and spices with a bit of nama-shoyu)

Dinner:

3 servings of a wild rice salad I invented with sprouted wild rice, red onion, shredded carrots, red bell pepper, corn, celery, tomato and an olive oil/lemon juice dressing

Later:

(since I'm still hungry and can't go to sleep like that) a handful of dates

This is pretty typical for me, although my usual lunchtime salad is baby lettuces, spinach, lots of herbs, tomato, cucumber, raisins or other dried fruit (chopped) and nuts (often raw sliced almonds or pine nuts)

By the way - I weigh 100 pounds....so I'm not dieting/don't need to/ and don't think this is emotional eating

Thank you , sounds like we are after some similiar goals. I am also 5'3". My high weight was 209. As you can see in my signature raw is really melting the pounds off me and more importantly I am feeling good. I hope you get your book soon. Be sure to read the book, don't just skip to the recipes. There is a lot of good information in those beginning pages. Please if you miss everything else remember this one thing. KEEP IT SIMPLE, JUST EAT RAW! I wish you much success. Keep those goals in front of you and I will see you with bragging rights on the forum soon.

Sounds like a balanced diet to me. What's the problem? As you can see I don't put how many or how much I have of something. I eat as many or as much as I want. Your body is maybe needing that amount of food. Are you restricting yourself? If you are maybe you should consider stopping and just feed that body of yours what it wants. I do!

Smoothie: Young Coconut, with a little bit of the water (since it spilled everywhere and I only got a bit in it.), 3 frozen strawberries (I ran out), one banana, 4 dates, kids superfood (which is amazing! Used a packet and it' like chocolate. YUM!) and ground flax seed and mixed it all up. Had to eat it with a spoon, tasted like yogurt! Mistakes are good. lol

Snacked on celery, figs and dates all day it seemed. Had a peach, which was so juicy!

Dinner: Diced Avocado and tomato with a mixture of apple cider vinegar and agave nectar (my new favorite dressing!) and made a wrap with romaine lettuce. It was amazing!

Juiced 2 pounds of carrots and two apples.

It is usually a good idea (digestion) to wait 15-20 minutes between eating fruit to go to veggies and stuff. Most of the time I do that, but other days when I'm really hungry I just go for it.

Enjoy-----and grl please eat, don't let yourself get hungry or you will set yourself up for failure.

Many thanks, Lay-Lay! as soon as I read your reply i dove at the bag of almonds. I cant beleive how good they taste to me right now! I never before relalised how sweet and - believe it or not - nutty almonds taste. Before today i always thought they tasted yucky, but today....? Heaven! I feel so good about myself right now. Proud that I at least gathered the strength to make this decision for my own good and am actually eating raw right now.

OHHHHHHHHHHHHH Lay-Lay, your missing out if you dont know what lychees are.

They are usually found only at Asian/Middle eastern markets.

Here look at this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lychee

I had purchased some like a month ago for 3.99 / lb and they were small and not so good. Yesterday, I purchased them for 1.99/lb, i think its their season, because they were great. sooooooo goood. go buy some or i'll send you some. they travel well because they each have their own little shell :D

Lay-Lay
06-30-2006, 12:59 PM
Wow, I have never ever heard of them. Thank you so much for the link. I will have to look for some next time I go to Altanta. They may get a little cheaper for you according to that link because their actual season is July to October. I am sure the Farmers Market in Atlanta will have them. They have everything!

YAY what a day

I already wrote about my Golden find of the dehydrator. Read "I hit the motherload" if you wanna hear the story. I'm so goofy :p

Today I set off to the grocery store in search of things to thrill my tastebuds. Ok so I set high expectations but doesn't hurt to try ya know.

I wandered back and forth and everything looked SOOO good I imagined myself laying on top of the water melons eating the perfect grapes like some Roman Goddess WHOOT!

As I was looking I started to notice other people and what they were buying. I looked in their carts and then looked at their bodies and faces. I saw a cute couple with 2 little munchkins in tow and they were smelling, squeezing and listening to the fruits and vege's. It was an adventure for them so good for the soul to watch it.

Then I walked through the rest of the store and saw all kinds of *&?!#* (<--- Explitive removed to make this a safe for all site) in the carts of the lost people. I instantly felt so very sad for them. There but for the grace of God go I. I was one of them. A kindred spirit in commiting a slow body killing death. Now I'm not sure why I was lucky enough to wake up and see what I was doing. I wanted to run up to each one and say " NO NO you don't HAVE to eat that!!!* But instead I stayed silent because I remember the old me and if anyone had tried to be so bold I would have asked them if their medication had been taken that day!

I finished the rest of my buying and realized that 99% of everything in that store was totally un edible and unuseable. SOO SAD

I did perfect again today *pats self on the back*

Breakfast:
1/3 fresh Pineapple
1 mango

Snack:
1 pear (on the way home from shopping)

Lunch:
1/2 cup Mushroom/leek salad
1/2 cup Sunflower pate'

2 oranges (one with the peal the other not)
5 strawberries
1/2 cup of Blueberries

2 bananas

Ok, so it's not all raw, but I ran out of bananas because I was sharing them with a friend. Plus, the spaghetti was flavored with olive oil. I mean, how can you not like that, right?
