V8 juice is not raw. I think it may have a lot of sodium too.
You can make it raw yourself though.

Raw V8 Juice

6 medium-sized carrots
1 small beet (wash well)
3 large tomatoes
1 bag baby spinach
1/4 head fresh cabbage
1 red bell pepper
1 green bell pepper
3 stalks celery
1/4 sweet onion
1/2 clove garlic or less if you don't care for garlic
Kale leaves (a little goes a long way so be careful)
Chili pepper to taste
Salt to taste

Run all the vegetables through your juicer, add salt to taste, and then sit back and enjoy the healthiest V-8 juice around. Tabasco sauce to taste can be substituted for the chili pepper.

Nope.

I did ask for a Spicy-Hot V8 recipe a few weeks ago, but didn't get any responses. :-( The regular kind is ok, but I heart the spicy hot.

Shan, a good rule of thumb is anything that is canned or sealed in a glass bottle (sealed as in the jar lid sort of pops as if it was in a vaccuum) is NOT raw. Heat is applied during the canning process.

Also, if you think of how fast raw real food goes bad, you can usually deduce if something is not raw, because how would it have that sort of shelf life, keep on grocery shelves for months at room temperature, etc.

HA HAAA.... you guys are SOOOO funny ....LOL. :p

Thanks for the info. I will try to make the raw V8, but how many glasses does it make if it takes a WHOLE BAG of baby spinach???

Spinach squishes WAAAAYYYY down. I was surprised when I made the spinach avocado dip at how much spinach seemed to just disappear into the avocado.

Well you already know that V8 juice is not raw but just a tip: Pretty much any fruit/veggie juice in a sealed bottle in USA supermarkets or even health food stores is not raw because they must all be pasteurized by law.

Nope. Anything you buy in a can, jar or bottle that is sitting on the shelf and not refrigerated is not raw. Now I believe that Braggs vinegar is the exception to this rule. I could even be wrong there but it is at least a "live" food. Now that doesn't mean that something you find in the refrigerated case is raw. It would have to say that it is raw. If it doesn't, then it isn't.

sorry, not raw, but I bet we could make a really good raw one.

I was wondering about something very similar lately when it comes to packaged foods. . .I just usually assume they are all not raw, but. . .

What about things that are in jars that do say raw? Would they have intitially started with "raw" ingredients, but then still go through a preserving process?

I bought some MaraNatha raw, organinc almond butter (for $16 a jar mind you). . .it says raw on the jar, but in order to preserve it for a shelf life in a jar. . .would it have to have been heated. . .? Like the almonds they used to make it were raw, but then it went through some preservation process to be able to store it? Just wondering because the only ingredient is 100% raw, organic almonds. I guess they wouldn't have to say what exactly they did to the almonds to be able to store them on the label--would they?

Can I just make almond butter by putting them in my food processor?

Hmmm,
Myssi

Good thread Shan. . .this can get a bit confusing sometimes.

Can I just make almond butter by putting them in my food processor?.

I've done it before, but it doesn't get as smooth as what you buy in jars. It seems to be easier on the food processer if you don't put whole almonds in. I used the grating blade first to slice them, and then I pulverized the slices. It makes it almond meal, and adding oil makes it more like almond butter.

Myssi,
Making almond butter is so easy and it's delicious!

All you do is grind up whole unsoaked almonds-they will first turn into a almond meal but keep on blending for maybe 5-10 minutes more and it will eventually turn into a butter.

Sorry to go off topic guys, but Myssi, I wanted to let you know that even though the Marantha brand puts "raw" on their labels, they state on their website that it's "not suitable for a raw diet" or something to that effect. I believe it's in the FAQ. They state that "raw" just means that it's not roasted, not that it hasn't been heated. This is a problem in Health foods stores too, I've noticed. Anyway, they have admitted that it's not raw in the way that WE believe things to be raw (not heated in any way).
