Ok I am just wondering what the best foods are to eat for getting over constipation and the worst foods that I need to avoid for a bit. I am only eating fruits and veggies and a little grains/legumes, but I still I am having trouble being regular.

It all started about 3 months ago when I went to live with a family in a foreign country who like made me (Well I had no other options of food) eat lots of fried potatoes with eggs several times a week and lots of white breads/and cooked starches at every meal. Yes it was just horrible and in huge quanities! This is still wreaking havoc on my body as I am trying to go back to almost completely raw vegan. I have been home for just over a month.

Any tips would be appreciated so much!

I was getting constipated for a while and then I started taking physluim husk in a little it of water and it really helps to get things moving, you just have to make sure to drink a lot of water or else it clogs you up!

I hope this helps!

Best thing is water. You need water to flush it all out.

As far as foods, I would say greens in the form of smoothies. These are excellent cleansers as well as very nourishing: you can't lose.

All greens work, but someone here wrote once that spinach is especially good at cleaning one out and quickly; I found this accurate. The spinach seems to work a bit faster and more smoothly.

Veggiefriend .. Flax crackers made with whole flax seed and lots of garlic. Garlic has a laxative effect ... and flax works like little scrub brushes and helps clean you out. Tis wise to be careful with these tho, or you can have the opposite problem!

One of the mildest laxatives is olive oil. Take one tablespoon at bedtime.

I don't have any input on foods to avoid ... just eat a balanced raw diet and your body will get back on track.

good luck

Pineapple and papaya are good. They have natural digestive enzymes in them.

Bananas, no good
On an empty stomach dried figs chewed well with glass of water afterwards, very good
Wait a few hours, take a walk. Try waist bends and other exercises to help stimulate peristalsis. Have some exciting reading material waiting in the bathroom.
I also recommend Charmin Ultra if needed, but that's just me.

Once, when I was cooked, I decided to help myself in a similar problem with apples. I ate mostly apples for several days. On the third day, things started get moving. My guess is that any type of fruit in general will help.

Best,

I always fill like I drink so much water that is the crazy thing. I am drinking at least 2-4 liters of water a day. I am like 5'5 and 105. I feel like I drink so much I am never thirsty but I keep drinking anyway! I guess just keep this up!

Unless your are endurance training your water consumption should be regulated by thirst. Other exceptions exist but generally thirst is a good indicator of water need. In some ways your overhydration may contribute to constipation. You only can use so much water and any excess will have to be excreted. That nerve energy is wasted. Try withholding water until you really feel thirst, then drink deep. I bet you will notice more movement down there.
All the best.

green smoothies are so great for regulating bowel movements-- but it takes a week or two and no less than 2-3 cups a day (in my experience.)

on a side note (and i'm a little embarassed to be asking- i've never been great around computers) how do you start a thread?? i have tried to figure it out several times- there is a "thread starter" option at the top left of the "new posts" screen, but i cannot click on it.
thanks!

You have to click on New thread at the top of listings. I know that is vague but I don't know how else to describe it.

Lots of water is a good idea and also flaxseed. Cutting back on dried fruits is a good idea (they can be constipating) and also cutting back somewhat on nuts.

Ok let me see if I can help you. First off, you chose a group where you want to post your thread. Lets use "raw and living food discussion", so click on it and directly above where it says "thread starter" is "new thread" click on it and post :D
good luck

I feel as though ground flax seed clogs me up... But whole flax seeds are fine. Although I admit I really love ground flax seeds, and could possibly over eat them at times...

I found success with Apples. An apple (or 2-3) a day, keeps the Dr away. This is so true !

Good topic...for me it changes with the seasons and my personal needs. Right now as an expectant mom:) (I am SO excited)...i cannot get enoguh water and ripe ripe organic pears...they keep me moving. I agree too with green smoothies--my fave is organic ripe pears , romaine lettuce, and apple. and 2 c. of water keeps me feeling good.

When I do NOT food combine well that is major backup for me.....and when I eat lots of dehydrated and salty foods.

Flax works wonders for all of us. I LOVE flax crackers so it isn't a problem eating them.

Just make sure you also drink a lot of water with whatever food you choose to use.
