i've been on and off raw for a while but decided to go ahead and be 100% raw for june. aside from the craving for somthing cracker-crunchy like, i really haven't had much trouble. i've been following a more of a primal approach incorporating raw meat and cheese. i've also been using alot of nuts and cold pressed olive oil. my question is how much is too much when it comes to natural fats? i've read on other sites that natural fats are some of the best things that you can eat. i'm not saying this as an excuse to eat more fats- i really have no pref. will it lead to weight gain? the more i read on the primal diet sites with that aajonus primal diet principal the more i get confused. it makes sence but this site makes no reference to it.
help!
ps, i mistakenly posted this in the sprouting page, sorry

re: cravings - have you tried flax crackers? If you're near a Wholefoods you can probably get your hands on 'Matter Of Flax' crackers. Delicious and 100% raw/organic.
re: fats, good raw fats shouldn't make you gain weight. I am slowly losing weight (some days just maintaining, but I don't have any to lose, just want to get leaner) eating a few avocadoes per day, coconut oil, almonds, etc. I would start off just eating what you fancy, then adjust accordingly if you notice any problems. For every person who excels on low fat, another one or two excel with high fat / low sugar, and another 5 can eat what they want, when they want. Just go fot it and hope you're the latter! :)

there have been many threads on the fat subject if you do the search you will get a few.
Basically as most agree, when you first start a Raw Diet you simply eat Raw. Whatever it takes to keep you raw. I ate loads of Pumpkin seeds and Almonds, but no Avo's. At 10 months I have found I need to concious of my fat intake and now eat more fruits over my fats. I have added Avo;s now about 1 a Week.
Each person is different so just eat Raw and adjust accordingly as you go along.

Hi there,
You didn't find any reference to it on this site because this site is a raw vegan site. We don't discuss eating raw meat or cheese. ;)

Hi Peter,
Talk of meat-eating is discouraged on the raw vegan boards, and on the 'paleo' boards it is hailed as an optimal or necessary human food, which it clearly is not. So, it can be tough for a transitioning raw fooder who wants to incorporate meat into his diet as a 'bridge' food to get accurate information about how much to eat, what kinds are best, preparation, combining, etc. I don't eat meat myself and I have as much ethical compunction about it as anyone but I don't discourage discussions about it on my raw discussion list. Compromises have to be made in transition, and it's very important that people understand the costs and benefits of the various kinds of foods so they can make good decisions about what to eat. We discuss all aspects of raw food eating on my list, so your questions about fat would be welcome as well. To join, just go to my homepage and click on the link at the top.
Regards,
Nora
