Hi guys,
Quick question. I have been healthy my whole life and always eaten reasonably well (as well as possible being cooked lol - no sugars and junk food at least) Anyway, I have noticed recently that after being almost 100% raw for a lil over 2 months now my hands and feet look like they are a lil bit yellow as does my skin all over just a bit. My wife says hers looks that way to though I cant really tell. (but she knows her bod better then me ;) )
So I was wondering....as I know that can be a sign of liver issues...yet I have never had any and it seems odd my wife and i would both be having the same thing going on...is this to be expected on raw foods? Is that the "healthy glow" people speak of? Or is it possible we are detoxing to fast and our livers cant deal with it all? We drink alot of green juice everday...around 32 ounces or more. (its a mix of about 65% green and 35% carrot) I just wanna be sure this isnt something I should be seeing a doctor about (eek) cuz I know yellow skin can also be bad. (though I dont see how healthy eating can be bad lol) It isnt bright yellow...just has a tint that seems shiny for lack of a better way to put it.
any input would be great. thanks guys.

Are you possibly eating too many carrots? I know that eating too many carrots can cause yellow skin. Other than that I'm not sure. I hope you figure it out soon.

I agree with the others in that eating too many carrots can cause this. But you could also have jaundice for a variety of reasons. And you may or may not have symptoms. Lay off of the carrots for a few days and if it doesn't get any better, see a Dr.

hey guys,
i considered carrots but i honestly dont think that i get too many. i would say that i get about 4-5 a day (juiced) and then 1-2 (sometimes more) in salads or that i snack on with raw hummus or guacamole. In any event I wouldnt think an average of 4 a day would cause this.
Is the effect then cumulative? Does all that beta caratine build up? And how can one tell the difference between just a "healthy yellow glow" and a toxic yellow? (even though I have no idea how i could be toxic lol) Does green juice (which I think also has beta caratine in it doesnt it?) contribute to this? I have noticed that the yellowy glow seems more concentrated on my hands and feet -- perhaps because the skine is lighter colored there?
In any event, is this bad? How yellow will it get? Does it mean I need to cut caroots out for awhile? And green juice as well? If I can keep up the greens but need to cut out the carrots, is there another buffer i can use, maybe apple? The straight green seems to upsey my stomach and the carrot alwyas helped to buffer that.
Thanks again guys. God Bless
Jeff

hey julie..
I consiered this as well but as I have always been healthy I cannot understand how switching to raw foods could bring about such a condition. Is there a particular raw food that can cause this? Or can this happen if one detoxes to fast? Should I attempt to slow down the detox lol?
...so confused lol.

Definitely cut back on the carrots ... and see what happens. I had the same thing happen to me when I juiced 4 carrots per day. My hands turned orangy and the rest of my skin yellowish.
I stopped the carrots and it went away. So now, I only juice carrots occasionally-- and when the orange/yellow returns, I cut back.
In the mornings I substitute fruit juice (orange/berry/grapefuit, etc). and At night I do a broad vege juice: tomato/celery/cuke/onion/pepper/broccoli, etc(sometimes with one small piece of carrot).
apple is a great buffer for greens ... a potluck attendee I spoke with tonight drinks apple, kale, ginger, lemon. If you are sensitive to the taste of the greens, add more apple.
Another refreshing drink is simply sweet apples (red delicious are great) and a tiny piece of lime or lemon. Pour over ice for limeade/lemonade ... great.
Good luck!

hey terry,
thanks i will try that wit the apples and greens. One last question though: I tallied up roughly my beta caratine intake and wondered if its considered high. I drink three glasses (sometimes 2) of 16 ounce green/carrot juice a day. It appears that this is roughly 40-50 thousand mcg. As I dont know if an mcg is much in terms of carotines I am not sure if this is a big amount or not.
I noticed my dino kale and mustard greens seem to be high in the carotines as well. Any other ideas for proteins? I liked the greens since I work out and wanna add muscle weight and the greens are a great protein source. But maybe I am drinking too much green juice? Is that possible? What is considered proper on a raw foods diet? Apparently 32-48 ounces may be too much lol. EEK what am I gonna do for protein. I know too many nuts are tough on the pancreas and hemp powder is NOT cheap lol. hmmmmm......any good juicing veggies that are high in protein but not the carotines lol? I have a wedding to be in soon and I would rather not be yellow lol. ;)
Thanx for all your help guys
Jeff
