Okay, I hereby admit that I know nothing about squash. It's something I never ate on SAD, and I'm getting kind of frustrated. I'm familiar with zucchini, that's about it.

I wanted to make Alissa's fettuchini alfredo, but could not find summer squash. I don't know how big summer squash is or what would make a good substitute, can someone help with this?

Also, I wanted to make Alissa's Pad Thai. It calls for "yellow squash". I couldn't find anything labelled "yellow squash". I found "spaghetti squash", which is yellow, but I had no idea if this is the same thing or different?

I feel so clueless... :o

Help!

Yellow squash looks very similar to zucchini except it's yellow. It's also called summer squash. It's the same size as zucchini. Spaghetti squash is a winter squash, along with butternut, acorn, hubbard, etc. They are a lot harder in texture, though I have used them raw to make noodles and it worked really well.

Thanks for your help, Brianna! :) I guess I'll just substitute zucchini until I see some summer squash around here... At least I have an idea what it looks like now! :o

Zucchini should work fine. They taste pretty much the same.

threedogs, thanks so much for the link to the photo. This is just the best group of people here, so helpful! :)

Brianna, thank you, I was hoping they tasted similar, now I can confidently do the substitution. :)
