Anybody going to the July training? I'm considering it - my kids' (they're all in their twenties & responsible, although I will probably be worried, just the same, about my furrbabies) have all told me to go for it, and that they'll take care of the dogs (yes, three of them).

I'm concerned about finding (reasonable!) lodging (July being tourist time in Maine & all).

Hi threedogs ... I'm going in July too. I'm concerned about the lodging as well .. so I'm going to be writing Elaine to see what has been set up. Think I'll get that done today!!!

See ya there!

After just finishing day three of the June class I would encourage anyone considering going in July or September to use whatever skills you can to get yourself there. You will be sooooo glad you did.

It is an amazing wonderful experience. And I am so grateful for it.

Be well. More when it's over.

Susan

I may be in Maine with my grandparents during the time of this. My grandma seemed really interested in RAW when she found out that I am raw. It would be cool if we could do this together...but I am probably not old enough. Does anyone know if there is a certain age you have to be??? thanks :)

edit:) Or maybe I am thinking of a food prep class or something...I don't know. Either way can a 15 year old do any of it (I'd have my grandma with me)

I doubt there's an age limit -- at least one that would keep you from going. And if there is, sign me up as the first to petition for you to be able to attend :p

Boy, wouldn't that set the therapist into a frenzy? A class where they teach this irrational eating disorder called "raw"??

Hope you and grandma can both go!!

SedonaSun, awesome! I'll have to find out some how.

I just realized it is probably quite expensive, so I am not sure I will be able to attend but it would be SO awesome. How would I go about being able to attend? You have to sign up right? Does any one know the price? (this is the part that scares me lol)

thanks :)

i'm going and i am soooo excited! i just really have to get "on the ball" and do some planning-- i'm still breast feeding my 18 mo. old daughter a couple of times a day and my husband and i are trying to work it out so that they can come as well (to maine- not the training, of course.) anyway, i'm both excited about the training, and just being in maine- never been.

http://www.rawteacher.com/teachers.php Here's Alissa's classes, plus classes held by other teachers. They're not all the same... Alissa's are all 3 classes in one.

You know the saying goes that "that which does not kill us makes us stronger." Don't know if that's always true, but strength does come through adversity. You will be stronger for this in the end, though it doesn't help much now, I'm sure.

But think on this... you know raw, you love raw, you want to take raw classes, why not? Take the certification classes and start teaching others! Maybe your mom would let you hold a class or two a month?? If not at your house, then a neighbor, friend, relative? Or even let someone attending "host" the class at their house for a fee reduction. Maybe then your mom would start see that there's more too this than "eating sprouts" and that you really are passionate about it and that others are interested and others love the foods you make. Plus, it would give you a kickin' part time job. :) Don't let your age stop you! Finances...that might be another issue but if you're determined, you'll find a way. I'm praying for you, too :)

Lunar Fey -
You should try to encourage your grandmother with raw, if you can. I'm sure it would be great to have someone in your corner!

Terry -
Let me know if you find out anything about the lodging.

Seastone -
Thanks for sharing with us. Please tell us MORE after the classes are over. :) (and isn't Maine beautiful?)

Lane -
Wow - I am impressed (that you're coming out to do the classes while you're nursing AND that you have your husband's support). Good for you (and for your little one, too).

Hey, you are where I used to live - Tucson. I didn't enjoy the heat while I was there - but I was fortunate to go to Pima and took some of the wonderful writing workshops that Meg Files has put together at the West Campus... (wish I could find the same caliber here).

Heat baaaad! It's just really started picking up here. Supposed to be 112 in Phoenix today I heard. I took some writing classes at Pima also, but MANY years ago. Never had Meg though. I had Nard Taiz and Paul Malanga. Don't know if they're even there now. Glad you got out of the heat!

UGH! I hate the heat. I must have been insane to move to AZ. When we got back (little over a year ago), we had the worst winter ever - freezing cold, and snow coming down like crazy - I was in my glory. Our home is now just a block away from the ocean, and I was so in awe of the beauty around me here, stuff I took for granted until I left New England.

During the worst snow storms that winter, I would go down there with the dogs, stand on the walkway next to the beach, and watch the waves crashing over the wall - I almost got soaked more than once.

Which made me think, "YES, I am HOME!!!"
