Hi, I have been juicing and eating a lot of raw for several years but have yet to be able to transition to all raw. What happens is I get low blood sugar and get shaky and then grab something like a piece of (raw) cheese and also usually have a cooked vegetarian meal. I have a GreenStar juice and juice mostly greens every morning. I have read alot about green smoothies but really cannot afford a vitamix or k-tec, can you make them in a high quality regular juicer? So any tips regarding hunger would be welcome. Also, I don't have a dehydrator and seems most books revolve around dehydrated recipes. Thanks

if you're wanting to try smoothies, i say start with a cheap $20 blender.. it will work just fine.. it will just take a little longer to make them... but i used a $20 blender for a month or two before i bought a vitamix..

The Green Star is made for green juices. In fact, it's one of the few that is supposed to do wheatgrass really well (haven't tried that yet).
There are many who believe that the juices from a masticating juicer like the Green Star are better - that there are more enzymes available in the juice (the Vitamix, supposedly, destroys the enzymes with the speed and heat it produces).
I have both - I got an older (stainless steel) Vitamix on eBay a few years ago for a good price. It is still going strong, (although I think the blades now need replacing), and I use it for stuff like smoothies. But as far as juices, I love the Green Star.

I tend to juice stuff I can't blend, like sweet potato, or carrots, then add the juice to the smoothie in the blender. I have a cheap blender, hamilton beach or something like that, and I have a nice Breville juicer which I bought new on ebay. It was $90 at first, then when I received it, it didn't have the 32 oz cup and foam reducing filter or whatever it's called, so the guy gave me $20 back. I ended up paying $70. I really like it, though.

I have done raw for hmmm almost 3 years and only recently got a dehydrator and a vitamixer. These things sure do make raw life easier and they are very much a thing to save up for. But raw food does not require these things. Use what you have or enjoy simple foods until you can get the tools you want.

Hi Anneh -
I think others have referenced this, but can you homogenize with the Green Star? If so, you can do smoothies! What I do is put all my greens and fruit and celery through the homogenizer. Then I through it all in the blender. I don't need water that way. Otherwise, just the blender would be fine with a little water in the bottom to start. It would just take me a bit longer that way because the blender needs time to grab the greens and blend them.
Regarding hunger, have you tried having lots of fresh fruit around available if you get hungry? Or maybe a handful of nuts?
