View Full Version : nutritional value of bee pollen
yes its just me on my harpfully not fruitless quest to find a natural raw source of B12. i can not consider bee pollen vegan as i consider bee's in the animal family even if they are insects. however i have sources that do not harm the bee at all in making their pollen and therefore have no reticence in using their pollen. but will it in fact supply B12?

I would take a supplement for B12. The whole issue is such a debate, I think everyone should take a supplement to be safe.
brianna thinks i should take a supplement, any concurring or contrary opinions? in any case thanks brianna for sharing your thoughts

Sea vegetables are packed full of B-12. I would give these a try if your not already. I crave them at times and I figure that is because I need B-12 or iron. I like to put laver for example in a nut patte and I love nori rolls. I also make kraut and I use it other types of seaweed in it and I eat kraut almost everyday.

Are there any that don't taste like fish? I can't stand that taste. I've tried a couple but everything tastes fishy.

Yes, it's not vegan, but you don't have to be vegan to be raw. It is a raw site, not a raw vegan site as many claim. Many people here use honey and/or bee pollen, among other things.
I keep reading that you should use organic produce and not wash it. Then you get the b12 from the soil. Although I don't know how much you would need to satisfy the recommendation.

when I add them to patte's I don't taste the seaweed at all. But there is alot of other sources for B-12 in many common fruits and vegetables. I am sure someone here has posted them in the past. I would just type B-12 in the search and see what threads come up. I think bananas have B-12 in them and know there are a lot more. Just search the threads.
i love raw foods too.

Sea vegetables have B-12 analogues in them, not true B-12. Karenisraw is the resident B-12 expert, but I haven't seen her around for the past week or two.

Yeah a supplement is best. The vegan food sources are all analog, which will not in fact give the B-12 we need. I'm not an expert, but it's what all the veg doctors recommend...
