Did you ever get your recent bone density tests back?

I have been anxious to hear your results. :p

I did get the results back....At first I was a bit disappointed because it has decreased 4-8% (depending on area from last year...However, I have been researching bone density and there has actually been a research study that indicated "raw food vegetarians" do have low bmd because they have thinner bones and are thinner typically also....BUT...the "bone turnover rate" in RFV is also faster so the bones are thinner yet as strong or stronger....so to compare our levels with SAD levels is not appropriate....well, I am due to make an appt. with an endocrinologist and I plan on bringing a copy of the article so I can ask them to do a certain blood test that is supposedly more accurate than bmd tests themselves....Meanwhile, I have started tracking my foods on "fitday.com" to ensure I am getting adequate nutrients daily. My chiropractor (who is also a clinical nutritionist and homeopath) has me on a great protocol of whole food supplements from "Standard Process" and I am feeling FINE!!! I actually have none of the symptoms of osteoporosis aside from "low estrogen levels" I did not SHRINK! I do not ACHE! etc... So I really think it is a little exaggerated...I mean, how many average americans even KNOW their BMD???? I am not in denial though because I am taking steps to correct any deficiencies there may be....Thank you so much for asking about things!

Would you share with me what supplements you are taking?

This is very dear to my hear as I was diagnosed with osteoporosis by the time I was 30. I have never told my bone doctor how I eat though. I can just imagine what he would say about that.

Thanks!

This is just one of many links on a study done on raw foodists and osteoporosis:

http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=46447

I take a line of whole food supplements from the company "Standard Process" as per protocol set up by my chiropractor based on MY SPECIFIC needs. He uses "CRA" contact reflex analysis to determine trigger points for strengths and weaknesses within by body.

What led to you being diagnosed if you don't mind me asking? Mine was due to not having a "cycle" for a couple years. It has been almost 3 years now and still nothing....My estrogen levels are low so I did succumb to taking a replacement but that is the only Rx I take and it's once a week....I am trying to eat the proper nutrients so I can track it and if I have to "PROVE" it to my dr. I can... I do that daily on fitday.com that may be a good idea too since it shows you CAN get adequate nutrition with raw food!!! (except I NEVER meet the requirement for B-12, vit. D, and sometimes CALCIUM!!!)...Good luck...e-mail me if you want to talk more

MissLinda-
Do you mean right after my injury???? ARNICA.....I also got a "bunch" of healing herbs and mixed them all together to make tea a few times daily....I will need to rack my brains to remember but I believe it was:
horsetail
comfrey root
red clover
hawthorne
oatstraw
dandelion root
ginsing
?????maybe a couple others....I'll dig around for my list when I get a chance...
I still have the tea every day (once?) + follow a protocol specifically tailored for MY needs from my chiro./nutritionist from the company "Standard Process" I can tell you more about those too if you''d like.....I was taking enzymes when I first started but am trying to get away from too much supplementation because that was part of my reasoning for raw foods to begin with....Hope that helps! BTW I have been taking the Standard Process line since 4/18 and am really starting to feel better (funny thing is I didn't think I felt bad before) My adrenals & parathyroid were "run down" but I didn't feel too bad....However, now I have more energy and need less sleep! Who knew! Take care

August 6, 2005............transitioning...............100% (or as close to that as I can be....probably 90-100 if we get "technical LOL) from 1/1/06 on.....I do drink organic tea and tea infusions of homeopathic herbs and have had minor slipups here and there but it is getting easier and easier to be "raw." :D
How about yourself?

Mine was also from not having a cycle for most of 5 years. I also have hypothyroidism which taking meds for that can lead to osteoporosis. I also went through anorexia 13 years ago and that was another hit category.

My Naturopath put me on natural hormones for about 6 months. They were fit to me according to my blood tests. I was on a form of progesterone, estradiol and estrogen. Then my cycle started up again. I also had to gain some weight. My body fat % was so low from over exercising and calorie restriction at times.

I know these were all factors in it.

Thanks for sharing with me!

Good Luck!

I use a progesterone cream too...and a twice a week estraidol pill from my gyno. nothing so far but I swear I ovulate monthly!!! Are you feeling better now? What do you do for the osteoporosis? I am using fitday.com daily to track my nutrients and am getting better at ensuring I get adequate calcium, magnesium, etc...vitamin D always comes up short??? any ideas? I appreciate this thread because it's nice to be able to speak with "like-minded" individuals about these issues instead of Rx pushers ! LOL Do you have a cycle now?
